I can't disagree more. When I looked to buy my S, I knew I wouldn't buy anything other than White with Tan. I found it more than 400 miles away. Anything else would be settling for less.

You don't want to know which color or color combo I dislike.

Not really true. Honda offered like 18 colors for the S2000, but HMA only imported 7 at the most.

 

I have always had a thing for White Hondas ever since I found out that the Type R's were white. The NSX, Integra, and Civic Type R's of the late 90's are some of my favorite Hondas. So I was hoping for a white CR but couldn't find one for sale at the time, so I ended up with the Apex blue, which is the only CR specific color and has grown on me. I really like it.

But GPW is a great color combo, I think that most US people do not associate white with sports cars or something that that. I think most people in the US who think sports car think red or black. But I'm just guessing at that.

 

Same here. I drove from NJ out to Ohio to pick up my near mint 2002 "Only year with glass window and white/red interior" AP1. No road trip has been more worthwhile.

 

i love my GPW. i think it's more like GPW owners are not selling their cars instead of Honda making limited number.

 

Quick history lessons - back in the day auto racing had assigned (or assumed) racing colors. That is why Italian racing cars were typically red, german cars were silver, british racing green, and when Honda entered F1 in the 60's - white for Japan.

When Honda released their Type-R models, they made Championship White exclusive to Type-R's in honor of Honda's racing heritage. The red interior most likely in honor of the red and white Japanese flag.

Anyway, Honda fan boys (including myself) picked up on this. If I owned a Type-R (integra, nsx, or civic), I would want it to be white because 1) it's an exclusive Type-R color and 2) Because of it's racing heritage.

While GPW isn't quite Championship white (although IMO better looking), it's still an homage to Honda's racing heritage (especially with the red interior), and my guess is why Honda limited its production. Although the fact that most american's don't like white cars (at the start of S2000 production) probably had something to do with it as well.

I too was looking for GPW when I bought my second S2000 (the CR) but it was hard to find in a delete model (they only made 7). I do find it interesting that the Integra Type-R in the US only came in White, Yellow, and Black - the same colors (short of exclusive apex blue) that the CR comes in.
