Hello all, I am new and am looking at different s2k's to purchase, I haven't decided yet on new or used. I took a 2004 gpw for a test drive the other day, liked it alot more than my rsx -s, it actually had a smoother suspension than my rsx. Anyways to the question at hand...I really want a lighter color car. I gave up on honda/Acura and their black cars. I just don't like the final product. I went to the dealer today to "look at my gpw" and noticed the paint had like swirl marks or something in it...then I looked at the silverstone and it was totally opposite. It was like looking into the deep sea. The silvestone was so smooth, clear, clean, beautifully produced and without the 'swirl marks'. My question is has anyone else noticed this? I would prefer a color that is easier to take of and the silverstone looked like it is just a better paint than the white. I actually like the white alot...but not if it looks like that brand new. I like the silvers too, but it seems everyone has a silver one that I have seen. Any thoughs on the matter? Appreciate everyones assistance. Thanks.

Sorry I don't know how to use the quote function on this board yet. But anyways, that's cool send me a pm. I'm not really a "motorhead" more like a car enthusiast who just enjoys the simple pleasure of being behind the wheel.

I highly doubt that the swirl marks you saw were to be attributed to the exterior color of the car.

Sounds to me like the GPW had been washed by the dealership, probably with a bucket of water that had washed ten cars before it, and the Silverstone was untouched. Either way, if you plan to buy new make sure you tell the dealership you want your car, when it arrives, to NOT be detailed by them prior to delivery. Tell them that is something you enjoy doing and that you would rather be the first person to wash your new car. That way you can make sure dirty grit-filled water doesn't touch your car and create the swirl marks you saw.

I'm not sure if that is it, though it very well may be. I should take a picture and post it (not sure if it will come through in a picture), it is such a difference. I have seen the same type of effect in past honda cars I have owned. The other thing is that the gpw was not very clean. In fact you could say it was down right dirty, well maybe not to that extreme, but it wasn't recently detailed anyways. So far my best guess is the metallic color versus the non-metallic color which seems to provide such a clarity and depth to the paint. I don't know. I want the depth and clarity I saw in the silverstone in the white, but from what I have read it seems the gpw is sweet but never comes out as well as the other colors even with zaino..it is still just nice.

Razor,

To be quite honest with you I'm really not sure. I've heard that an orbital buffer will remove swirls but for some reason I'm not brave enough to try using one on my S. I've also read accounts of Zaino Z-5(i think this is the one used to remove swirls) doing an excellent job but I've never used the Zaino system before on any of my cars. Perhaps you can find a definitive answer if you start a thread in the Wash and Wax forum.

What waxes have you used in the past and which one's did you prefer?

when i first got the car, i was using megauirs high-tech yellow wax #26. it gave the car a nice shine and finish, BUT it attracted a LOT of dust/dirt for some reason.

now i have switched to S100(can be found at a harley davidson dealership)...it is by far the best wax i've ever used. gives a deep shine(which is hard to achieve with a white car), glasslike finish and most importantly, does NOT attract dust whatsoever.
oh yeah, it is very easy to apply and remove.

i highly recommend s100, it's only 10-15 bucks.

the swirl marks are NOT due to the color of the car.

the swirl marks are due to tiny substances (dirt, etc) that scratched the paint when the dealer washed the car. It COULD'VE happened to the Silverstone.

I've seen a Silverstone with plenty of swirl marks. My friends brand new GPW doesn't have swirl marks yet.

My Silverstone doesn't have any swirl marks and its been 9 months.
