I know there has been lots of talk about grinding, but mine hasn't grinded. What I do have is a grating noise from the transmission when I let up off the gas and the engine is decelerating. I can hear the engine winding down which seems normal, but I can also hear a harsh grating coming from the transmission. This is amplified with the top up. Is this a normal sound or should I be concerned?

I've always had a certain amount of noise in that area also. I think it's normal. I'm sure others will chime in on this. Mine hasn't gotten any worse in 12.5K miles.

As much as I hate to say it is normal, it is normal.
It will somewhat get louder as the mileage builds but it won't get louder.
Of course, you will not hear it when yours is new but it will get louder progressively. But don't be concerned.
For me even that gear noise is nothing compare to what I am getting from ATS final gears.

I recently had the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear sets replaced along with the clutch, flywheel, and related parts. The rear diff. was also replaced at the same time. Almost all of the noises are now gone and mine had them when it was new.

Honda told me that the clutch is what's making all the noise. The car sounds much better now.

TRICKS46, I had the 2nd gear grind and sometimes after running 7000 to 9000 in 2nd for 45 to 50 seconds or so 3rd gear felt like it was locked out. The car just would not go into 3rd. The rear diff. was making noises under certain conditions and was also replaced. When they pulled the tranny out the clutch looked like it had been cooked so they replaced the clutch and flywheel.

CG, tell us how you accomplished that because I'd sure like to know. Did you just go in and complain about the noise?

I have also noticed this noise. I do not have any probems with my tranny either. I think it is simply the noice taht the chain timing belt makes when you are letting the RMP's come down from higher RPM's... It sounds very motorcycle like.
