Hey guys I am a new owner of a 2000 AP1 with vinyl soft top window. My window is getting creased when i put the top down and I read about this magical product called Greg Straps that someone on the forum use to sell on eBay (I already know about using the pool noodle trick but that's a hassle). Now it looks like I am about 15 years late to the party but does anyone have them or remember having them? I've read all the threads I could find and I can't even find a picture of them. From what I have read, it looks like they were pieces of elastic that had velcro on the ends that stuck on the top and bottom of the sides of the inner vinyl window. Seems like something I could make if I just had a little more information about the size of the product, etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! This forum has helped me so much already with my new car.
Thanks for the above link but I've already read through that thread. Still nothing that describes what the product is for me to make it. Hoping one of the former old timers would chime in on this one.
I have a vinyl window in my ‘01 and when I replaced my top I cut some black felt and fit it in the back tray where the window rests when down. I then cut another piece to fit the outside of the window. This keeps it from rubbing against itself while driving.
Yes Birdybog, that is a good idea. There are basically three things you can do (and I am stealing the words from another forum member below):
1) The rolls (pool noodles) you can buy are to prevent creases from forming in the plastic and to keep the plastic from rubbing itself when lowered.
2) The mats you can buy are to prevent scratching of the plastic from inside the car after the top is lower into the storage area.
3) The elastic straps with velcro ends that Greg sells are designed to stretch the plastic to make it taunt when it's up and in some case assist in aligning the plastic as it's folding when being lowered.
I'm interested in the third option as I have already taken care of the first two.
