Default grille recommendations?

Looking for advice and comments regarding grilles for my S2k.

Do you prefer the Coastal Metals or Grille Tech product?
And why?

I have the Coastal Metals and love it. I know nothing about the Grille Tech.
I have the Mugen thermostat, fan switch and radiator cap and I run without a front plate and I have never had an over heating issue at driving school.
About 2 months after I put it on I hit a bird, I'm convinced that grille saved me from a nasty radiator repair. And yes, I had to remove the grille to get it clean, that bird exploded - what a mess.....

I have the Grille-Tech grilles and so far they have been great! I've had an opportunity so use both styles of grilles the Race stlye and the Diamond style. I like the Grille-Tech grilles better because the holes are smaller and the grille looks tighter the the Coastal Metal ones (IMO of course). I went to the Fall Colors tour last year and ran the car hard for about 6 hours and I never once had more than 3 temp bars. they have been great to me!

Diamond Style:

And you can't imagine how feathers stick when they have little chunks of flesh on the ends of them....

I really suggest a grille as a good mod, you just never know.

FWIW, I just installed the Coastal Metals "Black Powder" grill on my Suzuka Blue last night. After my comparison (which may be inaccurate, as I only looked at a couple of installs), I liked that the Coastal Metals grill is bolted on to the car, not tied on using those little plastic ties. Took me all of 15 minutes to install it. Also installed a Coastal Metals front bumper protector last night; it took me a bit longer to install, but I got it done in about 30 minutes.

I also have to agree with Triple-H; a grille is a very good investment, regardless of manufacturer.

Really?

I would never put something on my car that restricts airflow not only to the intake but also to the radiator. There are numerous threads on this website that talk about the airflow restrictions from aftermarket grills.

Don't do it. Your car will run better without. But, if you must, get the least restrictive design. My bet is that you will remove it in a matter of months.

Check this thread.

Good luck.

Seems like a snorkle of some kind - run to a hole in the grille itself or from an opened side vent - may be the best answer. I run with a local club allot - close quarters - and am concerned about having debris thrown into the radiator

manufacturers seem to reference only engine/ underhood temps. i'd like to see a real airflow comparison

I totally disagree. I've had it on my car from day one and I have never had a problem and my radiator looks brand new still. Have you ever had one on your car? Once you start driving your car for a while and your radiator fins are all crushed from rocks and road trash, you tell me whats worse for your car. I'll stick with my grille because, I'll have to replace a grille while you could be replacing your radiator.....

Don't believe everthing you read. I say this from personal experience.

But to each his own.

I made my own grill with about $40.00 in materials found at your local sheet metal shop, auto zone and Home Depot. I used perforated stainless steel similar to what CM uses, I have tracked the car and live in Florida with no heat issues! It has saved my radiator on more than one occasion and I would feel naked without it now! I am sure the grill tech is a great product as well! Sure there is less airflow but not enough to really effect performance and the benefits, peace of mind and looks outweigh any negative effects I have seen!
