Default Grinding like a mofo. Help me please!

Hi all,

Well I got my S2k like 2 weeks ago and it has grinded since driving off the lot. I'm not a good stick driver, but I do push the clutch all the way down (I don't understand why they made it not actuate until its on the floor.). Anyhow I'm getting sick of it. When its freezing cold, it shifts like buttah. But the second the engine heat hits 2-3 blocks on its meter it seems like someone dropped metal shavings into my transmission. It's a 2002 so I thought there were supposed to be fewer problems? Anyhow there's only like 800-1000 miles on it. My question was can I take it anywhere to have warranty work done on it? Is having it fixed warranty work? I mean I've only had it 2 weeks I couldn't have raped it that bad right? I know others have this prob, but mine is VERY pronounced. All my gears grind. Sometimes first is so bad I have to manhandle it into gear. I just don't understand can anyone give me advice?

Also, if I have them fix it what can I do to shorten the clutch? If it's not warranty work what should I do? Love the car.. hate changing gears Anyhow. Thanks for all the help. This board is AWESOME.

you should take that in. i have an 02 and the gears stick a little when cold and then get fluid when warm. your car is going the opposite way. the only time i grind is when i've revved up the engine too high before putting it into gear. and i don't have to step all the way down on the clutch to change gears.

maybe you can hook up with another owner in your area and get their opinion live.

Oh I forgot. The only time I don't grind (or flat out can't change into first or second cause I cant get it in) is when its cold. Then its buttah. Regardless of stick speed, fast-normal-slow-grandma... Its really making me sad.. especially since I like this car so much.

If it isn't user error, it should be a warranty item. In the Bay Area, the (consensus list) top dealers for service are Menlo Honda (Redwood City), Los Gatos Honda (Los Gatos), and Jim Doten Honda (Berkeley).

Yeah...definitely get that bird into the dealership for warranty work! You're using up precious "imprinting time" (those oh-so-special initial moments of ownership) getting seriously worked up & angry about your car's current performance. It is a moral imperative that you seek *immediate* resolution -- and get back to loving this vehicle with all your heart

Also, if there is indeed a mechanical problem, you want to bring it to the service department right away! You want to point to the odometer and say,"look it only has 500 miles, I didn't do anything to it"

Yes, you should be able to take it to any Honda dealer for warranty work.

Yet another transmission problem! I really think AMH should do something about all this grinding and rough shifting.

Thanks guys! I'll make an appointment with Menlo Honda... If I have to fix the clutch or whatnot I may decide to upgrade. Besides changing it with the star one from bulletproof is there any way to shorten the stock clutch? I think the clutch is not releasing. If I push it as HARD as I POSSIBLY can it SOMETIMES shifts ok. I leg press over 500+ pounds so I know I shouldn't have to put 100+ pounds of pressure on my clutch to get it to release all the way. So I figure the clutch just may be not set up right.

Thanks again, will update with results in hopes it'll help others.
