Default ground control install help

I just installed my GC on my S. Only thing i had in question was the platick peices that go on the top of hte springs. They don't fit inside the TOPhats. am i supposed to cut them to fit or just put them in and have it kinda sticking out. it seems as though the springs aren't sitting flush, well at least from what it looks like. do i have to have the plastic pieces installed? any help would be great. thanks

Did you take the old plastic pieces out of the top hat? I didn't at first because it didn't look like it would come out, but after realizing something wasn't right, I pulled at the one inside the top hat and it came out with a little force. Then I put the new one in and the spring should sit flush.
