What's the best grounding point for an amp in the trunk?

Anywhere you can put a self tapping screw that makes contact with the metal.

Isn't the metal covered by insulating primer in most places?

Ok this is what you do. Avoid the gas tank!!!!! Then find a weld point. Its a little indent circle in the metal. Take some sand paper scrape your self a nice circle down to metal(dremel tool is nice) Then throw a self tapping screw through there.

Better yet get your self a nice seat belt bolt. Those go right to the frame of the car. That is the best thing but in a pinch go for a weld spot. Somewhere inconspicuous. Oh you could also try the rear strut tower bar. That might be a good spot!

If the screw is cutting into metal it's touching ground. Course it doesn't hut to have clean metal under the head. Oh that sounds kinky!

That's a great idea, Pinky! No wonder why they call you the stereo guru!

Pinky is right, look for a bolt somewhere if possible. I always take a volt meter and check around for a good ground. I haven't torn into the trunk of my S2000 yet, but I'm yet to find a Honda that doesn't have a bolt somewhere in the back suitable for a ground.

Sunchild:

There are some nice bolts in the base of the trunk hinge, next to the spare. Just loosen one of them, and put your wire under it. Retighten, and you are done.

Dan.

You might want to check the point you select with a meter. When I installed the horns I was surprised how many likely looking spots were not really ground.

Thanks all. There's a factory gound bolt behind the trim panel below the trunk latch.
