West coast, I live on the West coast and our S is never put away. Even with Covid-19 we get in day drives every month of the year. Just today we took a 55 mile drive down the Sacramento river and came back through some wine country. Low of 58 with a high of 67, very nice day for a drive.

p.s. I do feel bad for those of you who have to put your S away for months on end.

happy to help. The video captures the sound and excitement of the cars we love. Not really a buyer's guide, per se, but makes me want to drive mine again...in the spring. Its sitting in a 65 degree slumber.

Don't feel bad. Our "summer" cars last nearly twice as long as the same cars in the warmer climes. Plus, its like getting a gorgeous new car every spring. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

While S2000's have definitely experienced a bump, it seems that this is a phenomena experienced across the board by the majority of collector/classic/enthusiast cars. It no doubt has varied to some degree from one make/model to the next, but these classes of vehicles all received a noticeable bump due to the pandemic. I learned this from a Hagerty representative last year when I called to raise the coverage on my S. He said it was the craziest thing he had seen in all of the years he'd been working there. It wasn't just collector type cars by the way. Motorcycles, that had been experiencing a steady drop in sales for many, many years, saw a huge bump — the first real uptick in quite some time. I doubt that anyone could fully and accurately explain exactly why all of this occurred, but there are no doubt an endless number of theories.

Everything in life is a trade off. I've spent time in most of this country, including California. I've yet to find any place that offers year-round driving where I'd personally want to live. That's not intended to be a full-on knock on California or any of the other places where people can drive year 'round. But I'll personally take such trade-offs for the other things that come in exchange with living in places like the Pacific Northwest or New England (I'd live there, but my wife would struggle with the cold) for example. Even though the climate here in Oregon isn't all that harsh, I still put the S away for the winter as I prefer to drive the car when I can do so with the top down. I used to commute by motorcycle every month of the year here in Portland, although there were definitely days when that wasn't possible. But I also have other activities in life that are important to me besides driving/riding and that certainly comes into play here. Climate aside, the worst thing that I could imagine as an owner of a S2000 or motorcycles alike would be to live in a place that offers pretty much nothing but straight stretches of road. Were that the case, then I'm guessing that I'd be learning about the joys of tracking my car under such circumstances.

Typically here in Vermont the ground is frozen, and there is snow cover, for about four months a year, which for most enthusiasts means the motorcycles and sports cars go to sleep mid-late October, and they wake up around mid April after the salt has been washed off the roads by rain.

Most people here enjoy the winter months. But, its also true that without the months of frozen ground you cannot have the absolutely glorious spring awakening that we enjoy every year, not to mention the spectacular fall foliage in October. It is the rhythm of life here. I love it. I would not trade it for anything.

Thanks for the post Darcy, I saw it before you posted it. Sam Smith is one of the top auto journalists. He recently left R&T to write for Hagerty. Some of his columns in R&T are among the best auto writing I have ever read. Peter Egan type quality. Sam owns the fabled Integra Type R so he doesn't need an S2000. He is also a BMW 2002 racer. All things close to my heart.

I'm going to ask a dumb question...I assume that an ITR is worth more than an S2000 because it was produced in fewer numbers, but how do the two cars stack up otherwise? Is it comparing an apple to an orange, or can you draw a meaningful comparison between the two?
