Harassed by cops...
I know where you are coming from, but my main complaint is not the ticket itself. I mean, I know when I am guilty of speeding, OK, and I get caught. It is the utter lack of respect and ATTITUDE of the cops that bothers me.
OK, so maybe the last traffic stop that cop made, someone gave him a hard time. Be a professional and treat the next person with respect. If that is too much, then get another job.
Anyway, I have been since 1989 since my last speeding ticket (KOW), I haven't gone any slower, just been luckier/slower.

I find that the occasional beep and flashing LED's actually make me THINK about my speed more often. In my Acura, BEFORE I had the radar detector, I'd caught myself cruising along at 95 without even knowing it. When I hear that little beep, I instictively back of the gas and take another look at my speedometer. On that damn PHX-LV highway (US 93, I believe) I've just given up and set the cruise-control for 10 over. Of course, if I miss one speed limit sign, I could still be toast so I keep listening and watching the SR-1... I just don't RELY on it to save my butt. Cool thing about the S is that I NEVER lose track of my speed! I know exactly how fast I'm going at any given instant because I am driving that bad boy by the seat of my pants and lovin' every moment! I can feel the road, I can feel the wind and I can feel the LOVE!
Whether or not I am speeding,I want know when I am under Surveillance
by the police. At least I can give them an answer instead of saying "where was that", when the nice officer ask me "do you know how fast you were going when I clocked you?".

[B]If you really feel you were harrassed by this officer you should make a complaint. Since it appears that this was in CA more then likely the entire stop is on video that can be reviewed by his supervisor. Keep in mind that all your comments will also be on the tape. Most officers will stay well within the law knowing everything they do is on video. My brother is a cop and I have friends who are cops. Perhaps what you should do is set up a ride along and find out first hand how things go from their perspective.

I just recently got stopeed for 42 in a 25. It was a city cop who was just sitting in a car wash waiting. I have always driven with a radar detector to prevent the local city and sheriff from getting me the easy way. My radar detector broke and I have been too lazy to replace it. I am now the proud owner of a Passport 8500 due to that stop.

I got stopped and I immediately pulled over and placed my hands directly on top of the steering wheel. When the officer approached my car I then rolled down the window. He introduced himself and asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I just smiled and said I don't recall. I waited... he was silent. He then smiled. I waited again. He then asked me for my license and registration. I provided it, silently. He then asked for my insurance. I provided it. He went back to his car and I placed my hands back on the
steering wheel.
He came back and asked me if the exhaust on my car was stock. I said yes. There was a silent pause. The he told me my lights were illegal. I told him my lights were stock and DOT approved. *more silence* He went on about something about illegal lights. I kind of just had this blank "i am not listening stare." He then asked me where I got my inspection sticker which I replied "I do not recall."
The point of all this... I was speeding. I played the game (without a radar detector) and I got caught HOWEVER I didn't do anything to make a bad situation worse. You see I was speeding more than 42. I didn't know where he was when he clocked me but I wasn't going to admit to a higher speed. There are camera's in the cars and the cops are mic'ed'. If I would have said higher then that is what he would have put on the ticket. If I would have had all these illegal mods on my car then my admission on tape was enough. I was very polite and professional. I just put the burden of proof on the cop. He was professional and his demeanor was stern. I took my ticket for 42 with a smile considering it could have been a lot worse!
I will tell you this.... I had a friend get pulled over when he was 17. He was a lawyers kid and his dad was a tyrant of an authority figure to my friend. The cop had an attitude and preached to the kid about driving thorugh yellow lights, speeding, and everything else. He scared the hell out of my friend about how he could go to jail and lose his license etc...The cop asked to search the car and my friend said no (thinking he was being arrested and having a box of condoms in the car that he didn't want his dad to see). The cop told him he would have the car towed and get a warrant. My friend told him that he didn't trust the cop and was scared. So the cop called for a dog... none available. He had to wake up a judge in the middle of the night (Friday night) to search a car. This cop was so convinced that there were drugs or stolen property (from an earlier burglary) in the car that he couldn't wait and put the process in motion to have the car towed etc. My friend called his dad and they documented the entire search. The cops had a camera and his dad had one too. They found a gum wrapper, an empty gatorade bottle, some trophy panties and box of condoms. His dad sued the city or something for all that. He basically wanted to embarass the cop in a court room. The cop refused to show and they won a small amount of money... nothing big. I was told that the judge was EXTREMELY pissed at the cop and this guy was laughed out of the court room every time he appeared infront of this judge. The cop now has to have a supervisor's permission to wipe his butt.
I will agree that cops have a lot of power, but they are accountable for their actions. I also think that cameras in cop cars are a great idea. They protect both sides. If you feel you have been mistreated then you need to file a complaint.
I have never had a bad stop. Everyone has been polite and all the officers have done thier jobs.
