i got this done, check out my pics... the total weight for the softtop was 70 lbs (70.2x)
motor/brackets/frame, everything.
i love it.

hardtop is about 45.x lbs with the mounting kit.

keep all ur bolts and nuts in a secure place.. don't lose them

&

also tape it up real good before u remove anything... i'm an anal person but it's not a bad idea so just incase of scratching anything.

patient is the key.

prepare for 6 +- hrs of work, again couldn't have done it without my buddy Alejandro (thx again)
check it out

When you remove the soft top, doesn't that also remove the black stationary part bolted to the body (see pic) that the hardtop catcher normally bolts to?

no, well, half. u remove the big black bracket, u install the catcher on the existing location with 2 bolts less. still hold, very firm no sign of shaking or anything. you can keep the stock bracket there if u want but both of those together weight about 8 lbs.

i don't see why you would take out the top...it doesn't weight that much...i seriously doubt you would see any difference in auto-x times or anything like that. just plop the hardtop on and enjoy!

I would only do that if you never plan to sell the car (because having no soft top will definately lower the resale value)

So, for resale value, if you are going to sell your car, re-installing the softop after it has been removed is not an option? Does nothing fit after it's removed?

I'm confused......

We're just saying: why the heck would you spend a couple hours taking it out and a couple hours putting it back on when you can leave it underneath the hard top and will NOT likely notice the difference anyways?

you might think 71 lbs is not a lotta weight... but when u start doing other stuff such as removing the spare, exh.. etc

put it this way... after everything i removed and weighted was about 71.x lbs.

with this. amuse dual, no-spare, header weight saved, suspension... i'm 110 lbs less now or even more.

which means i can carry my girl with me and still have the same preformance as i was driving alone (stright away.)

spare = 25 lbs
amuse saved 45 lbs
softtop everything 70 lbs
coilover saved 5 lbs
header saved 11 lbs.

hardtop weights 45 with catchers

* you can always put the softtop back it just takes time.
*i'm a top always up person, i bought the car not because it was a convertable.
*since i don't plan to sell my car anytime soon or top down anytime why not do this project? save you gas too! 70 lbs of load that u dont need everyday!
* you can still "drop the top" by taking the hardtop off, put the tonneau cover on or something

if you are a person like me, this is the right mod for you.

I agree that this mod is right for some, and I might have jumped into it the first week I got my car. After that though, I realized I was born to drive a convertible.
