This is why I would get the hardtop:

IMO, there aren't many cars out there better looking than an S2000 w/ hardtop.

Not a chance of me getting one after hearing all this. Not worth the hassles, IMO.
Heheh...no offense, but what in the above thread pushed you over the edge? All I see is a bunch of owners raving about how much they love their hardtops.

I bought the S2000 to replace my '90 CRX-Si track car. I also have a custom fabricated rollbar. I bought the hardtop for several reasons and just love it. I take the opposite position, I can't fathom having this car and not having the hardtop!
Hardtop is great because:
- there are no hassles, just benefits!
- quite ride on long expressway trips and the car is lockable, unlike canvas that can be easily cut open
- it's beautiful, totally unique look because there are so few out there
- easy on and off, so far my 65 year old Mom has helped me take the top on and off, as soon as I have a house I would use a hoist so I can do it myself
- aerodynamically cleaner, less wind resistance, faster top-end speed
- in a roll over crash in a sand trap a rollbar can just sink into the sand, crushing your head/back, the top can act more like a snow shoe and keep the rollbar from sinking
- it is like owning two different cars for the price of one
- oh, and did I mention it's beautiful

Another good reason- the huge rear windiow is much less claustrophobia-inducing- has a well-lit, open feeling with good views all around. BTW-When I'm expecting to leave the HT on for a long time, I first spread a piece of black fabric over exposed parts of the retracted softtop to protect it from UV and dirt. Stays like new. My fantasy is that Honda will continue the body style unchanged for a few more years. Then, when my 'O1 (now at 35Kmi) runs out of its 100K mi warrantee, I can get a '05-06 model Silverstone, move the HT to it, and sell the '01 with a like-new original softtop.

I've always liked the idea of a hardtop but when I saw this image on Steve UCI's site (apologies to the owner for not crediting you but I can't recall if you were identified when I downloaded this image), I knew right then and there a hardtop is in my future when I can afford one. This is just so badass...

No offense taken. I suppose I could have explained this better. These are my reasons.

1. It costs $2500.00.

Great comments everybody - keep 'em coming!! I'm looking forward to getting mine installed.

Thanks to a member and friend on this board, I just purchased a brand new Spa hardtop for my baby for an absolute steal (end of year clearance)! My MINI Cooper is the daily driver so the S2K is always garaged and only sees lots of sunshine , never rain or snow (we do get a little here). You can almost drive top down year-round in Richmond.....LOL, but I feel there are other reasons for buying the hardtop, at least for me:

1) Makes an already beautiful car more attractive and unique during the winter months
2) Improved aerodynamics for higher speed (for track purposes) and a quieter ride (nothing wrong with the noise level before )
3) Improved visibility (ditto)
4) Higher resale value should I trade for another S2K as I've done already
5) "The price is right" on this one - I would not have paid full retail
6) Ohhhhhhhh, did I mention it DOES look BAD-ASS!!

Almost certainly it does wonders for those folks who live in the Snowbelt areas or those who use their S2Ks daily, regardless of weather
