Hard top question!

Default Hard top question!

I installed the hard top on my GPW S2000 and I swear the hard top color doesn't match the car's color. The hard top colors looks more like Taffeta white than Grand prix white. How can this happen? I ordered the hard top from Honda. I really like the hard top and don't want to take it out but the different colors is killing me!

A quick trip to any long standing body shop and they can tell you right away if it's off and by how much. Head back to Honda and tell them to make it right. The factory HT is going for $3,000.00+ I'm thinkin that's enough incentive to see it through

It seems like there are two questions. 1. Did you get what you paid for (do the colors match)? and Do you like the look, even if it is different from what you expected? Two-tone can look nice, but if the colors don't match and you don't like the combination, then Honda must be responsibe for making it right. If you don't like the two-tone look, then demand that the dealer give you a new car that matches the color of the hardtop. When the dealer offers the reverse, you can reluctantly agree if they'll throw-in a free oil change, for your inconvience, when they get the new top. Consider that it may take a year to get a new top and the color may be a mismatch again.

BTW, I have a sebring silver hardtop (matches the wheels) on my Suzuka blue S because I like the color combination better than blue on blue and it makes my S unique.

Getting a perfect color match from one batch of paint to another is next to impossible. This is even a problem for parts that are painted at the factory matching to parts painted at a supplier.

A color a few shades off is about as much as you can expect without a custom paint match job. This just happens to be a large part with a lot of lines, making it easier to see the few shades it may be off.

go back - ask them if they want you to keep the HT on while thenew one comes in or do they want it - they may say keep it until a perplacemet comes in because packaging the HT without factory packaging is a MOFO.

actually, you can go to the dealer and ask for another one all you want but ultimately they wont do anything.

I had the same issue with some oem side strakes back when I bought the car. they didnt match for sh*t

I complained and they tried another 2 sets they had in stock - actually the ones on the car were the best matching ones!

I asked the dealer to pay for them to be color matched to the car to make it right and they all but laughed at me.

bottom line - and its the same if you go to any bodyshop - it doesnt matter whether you use the color code - if something is being painted OFF the car it will never match your paint exactly. All S2000 accessories are painted on the line at different times using different batches of paint. there will always be variation - especially with white - its one of the hardest colors to paint match anyway

if you dont want to fully respray the hardtop, why not just get the bodyshop to do a quick gradual blend up the sides from your body color to hardtop color. sucks that it is money out of your pocket, but itll make you happy and shouldnt cost you more than $100. (you might have better luck going 50/50 with the dealer on that one that getting a new hardtop!)

Thanks everyone I am going over the dealer on Tuesday and see if they can fix this! It sucks the color don't match.

I'm always amazed at the quotes and responses I see from some of these Honda dealerships. I say this because if my dealership ever approached one of my issues with a poor attitude or better yet, "laughed at me"... You'd have to call 911 and there would be details at 11:00.

I guess I should be counting my lucky stars that my dealership takes all my concerns and questions seriously and have never even blinked no matter how small my issue is.
