Hard Tops
This depends upon which market you are talking about. In Canada, only Spa Yellow cars sold in 2001 had to be purchased with hardtop. I don't think there was such a requirement in the U.S. market. The hardtop was always an option and very few were ordered by the dealer with a HT when there was no pre-sale. Many owners bought their HTs after they received their cars. If this is your question, then any answer that does not come from Honda is pure guesswork.

Actually the hardtop was not available until 2001, or very late in model year 2000. When the S first came out late in 1999 and for most of 2000 there was no hardtop option. I remember receiving a postcard from Honda advertising the availability (or soon to arrive) hardtop option.
Your information is correct. I got my '00 in the fall of '01 only because the HT was then just available. I would not have bought the S if the HT was not announced. The HT was on order for 5 months and I got it in the part early part of '02.
