Default Hardtop

I do a lot of biking and a lot of my rides are out of state. That means I have to put my bike on the back of my car and I currently have a Saris Bones 2 bike rack. The problem is that it is a pain to set up and I have to be very careful of the bike(s) touching the body and causing scratches. I prefer a roof rack and didnt know if there was anyone who tried to use a bike roof rack on a hardtop. Thule or Yakima are the most versatile ones on the market. Anyway, just thought I would ask. I am going to contact Jeff (Hardtopguy) to see if he has any feedback on this issue. Thanks.

I have never seen a roof rack on an S2000 hardtop. My guess is that they're not designed for that Ray.

I have a suggestion... Depending on whether you want to spend the $$, a tow hitch is a nice way to go.

I have this for my car. It's completely removable (and invisible when the T-bar is removed) except for the three plates that anchor it to my car. I use an Allen bike rack attachment. See my signature.

Does Thule or Yakima make an attachment to even fit a hardtop?

If you're serious about carrying your bike on your car, I'd also consider a hitch. Truck rack isn't solid and it scratches.

I bike as well... My solution was to keep my old car (for which I have a nice roof-rack).

Consider a receiver hitch mounted bike rack. They do well keeping the bikes away from the car's finish and are generally cheaper than a comparable roofrack while working on more vehicles.

Consider the hitch Chazmo suggested.

Nope. I doubt the HT is strong enough to hold a rack. Regardless, there isn't enough market for Thule or Yakima to fab parts for the few S2000s with HTs (even if it is just the brackets).

The hard top is NOT strong enough for ANY kind of rack period. Only option is a hitch. Which will look ugly.

Yes it is my opinion. I even contemplated getting one, when the S was my only car. But you did a nice job integrating it into your bumper. The only ones I've seen are on AP1's where the hitch bar just sits between the two exhausts.

If you can help it though, the S is not "meant" to tow anything.... yesyes I know of the guy who tows his boat a few blocks to the Lake etc...
But safety wise the S isn't meant to tow. Especially up hills or down hills etc...

I didn't think a rack would work with the hardtop and a hitch like the one shown might be an option as it would keep the bikes away from the car and be more stable. I have heard of a company called hidden hitch? but dont know much about them. One option is that I am retiring to the beach and I like the Toyota FJ cruiser. Now all I have to do is convince my wife to let me have both. Cant put the grandkids in the S. Thanks for all the help.

Yeah, the hitch mount keeps everything away from the car. It's nice, Ray.

Good luck in your hunt.
