Is that $5900 CDN?

Any year hardtop will fit, but you need the proper mounting hardware.

They are all the same. Should be less than $3000 new.

Suggestion. I'll bet several USA club members would help. Buy a OEM top new (~ $3250 Ebay) or used (~ $2000 USD) in the USA near you in Canada. OEM's fit perfect, have defrost, etc. Have a club member, friend or family receive it in the USA. I'm not a great mechanic, & I mounted mine in less than 2 hours. Drive down, mount top, & drive back into Canada after a shift change at the border, or a different crossing point. Goal, "forgetting to pay tax" & lower price.
The OEM hardtop transformed the car for me. I doubt I'll ever take it off. Good luck.

Used ones from the US seem to go for around or just under $2000 USD, including all the hardware.

$5k for an OEM hardtop? I think you told him exactly what you should have.

$2000 USD = $2324.40 CAD
$5900 CAD = $5076.57 USD

What about the top I've seen with the elongated rear section?

The mugen or spoon? There are quite a few aftermaket hardtops available for the S.
