I have a MY 2001, and was thinking about borrowing my friend's hardtop.

Do I need to purchase and install an extra kit?

On the H and A website, it talks about a kit for specific MY 2000's, and specific colours for 2002, but no mention of a required kit for MY 2001's or 2002's.

Does this mean that 2001's and 2002's come 'pre-wired' for hardtops and we can just put them on?

And if not, what do I need to buy and how do I install it?

Anyone's help with experience on a MY 2001 hardtop installation would be greatly appreciated.

2001s and later don't use the same wiring connection as earlier models. However, all S2000s have conversion kits that must be installed before you can use a hard-top. It can take anywhere from 2-5 hours depending upon your mechanical skill and experience. Plus you have to buy the kit.

Both 00 and 01 models need an install kit. They are different for the two models but both require a kit.
