You can do it either way. If you're just looking for looks, the soft top can fold down and after a few parts are installed the hard top can be put on. However, some people look for weight savings and will completely remove the soft top (a little more complicated).

Your softtop is still there unless you remove it.

so all you do is clip the hard top ontop of the soft top with the soft top up or down?

The soft top will be down...but it's a little more complicated than that. The first time seting up your hard top there is some installation involved. After than initial time, it's as simple as taking it on or off.

it would just put pressure on the HT, there are 4 clips, two buy your shoulder on each side, and the regular clips on the windshield pillars.

Why would you try and put the top up with the HT on?????

The top switch is bypassed when the H/T is on. You can put the e-brake on and hit the top switch and nothing will happen.

for double layer protection... when it rains REALLY hard....

seriously tho... you wouldn't do it intentionally....
I've never been in a convertible before so answer me this : If you're cruising too fast to raise the top.... and you hit the button anyway.... does it go up? What if you sitting around and you hit the button to raise the top... and half a second later you decide... NO... is there a way to stop it? or reverse it before it completes the cycle?
