Default Hardtop question

This might sound dumb, but if you install a hardtop does the softtop have to be removed for some reason or can it be set 'down'? If its set down into the back, anyone know of anybody running into premature tearing/wearing? Or does that usually happen from excessively putting the top up/down rather then leaving it down?

With the hardtop on the softop remains on the car in the down position.
I'd guess the wearing on the softop accures mostly when raising/lowering it or when the top is up and the fabric is "stretched more than while it is down.

I keep a small piece of cardboard under each of the front latches so the top does not rub the latch while it is folded down.

I believe when you put the HT on, a switch is triggered that over-rides the top up button.

i think he meant if one day you decided to take the top off and drive topless, if it rained you would have no soft top in the interm before you could put the hardtop back on.
