How safe is the hardtop in a crash? Will it just flatten if the car is flipped? or will it get ripped off? Also, with the Mugen CF one, am I screwed if I get in an accident? Won't I get blanketed by cf shards?

 

I dont think the hardtop helps in a rollover.

 

My guess would be that the OEM version is as safe as the soft top. With after market carbon or fiberglass you are on your own.

 

The OEM hardtop was designed for our cars, and im sure it had to under go some sorts of saftey tests.

 

Really? I kind of assumed we're SOL w the softtop in the event of a rollover.

 

As Buc said its as safe as the softop, will it stay on in a roll over ? I kinda doubt it. But you have to remember we have the roll bars,
and that is your primary saftey factor in a roll over, with a convertable
anyway.

I would rather have a HT over my head in an acciedent especially a rollover vs. havin the top down.

 

The inside of the HT doesnt look to have much structure to it. The windshield frame and roll bar/hoop behind your head is what protects you.

 

The last time I was out on the highway, I passed a Camry that rolled over minutes before I got there. The top was smashed down to the bottom of the windshield and bottom of the door windows. The tops on most sedans are made of metal not much thicker than tin cans. In the unlikely event of me flipping my car, I'll take my chances with the roll hoops and reinforced windshield surround on the S2000, thank you very much.
