Dealer called today. My hardtop has arrived. I bought it for our pacific northwest wet winters. In the mean time, I need to figure out how to store it. How does everyone store the hardtops when not in use?

Rigged up rope and pulley system (about $40.00) from garage roof above where I park the car. Lift it right off the car and back on again. 1 person job. Just make sure you attach the pulleys to a beam. The thing weighs about 50#. Or if you have lots of garage floor space and lots of money, you can buy the rolling hardtop stand from Honda (About $650.00 Cdn). Mazda makes one for the Miata, don't know the price.

I kept the shipping box that the hard top came in. Right now the hard top is in its original container occuping most of my 24 year old daughter's bedroom. She lives back east and visits us on occasion.

I like the hoist idea, but won't it get filthy that way?

It's only dust up there so when I put it back on the car, I wash the whole car or I use the California Duster if it's not too bad. You can put a flannel sheet over it if it makes you feel better.

xviper, how about some details on your hoist? Obviously you don't want to scratch the top or deform the rubber seals. How do you suppost the top w/o putting pressure on the seals. Any info would be appreciated.

I've contacted the company that markets the Miata hoist, and they say they've tested it with the S2K hardtop, and it doesn't work! Too bad.

Beverly Hills Motoring Accessories makes hoists (manual and electric) for MB, Miata, Boxter, Z3, etc. About 2 months ago they told me they would be getting one for the S2k. You might want to give them a call. They are at http://www.bhma.com

Sorry guys, I been away from a computer for a couple of days (on holidays). I'll can post some pictures when I get back home in a few days if anybody still interested. Basically as follows:
The hard top is suspended by 4 hooks and 4 ropes. The hooks are the same type as whats used to hold ski racks on car roofs. The hooks go in between the outer hardtop skin (above the window on each side and at the corners on the glass part so they don't deform the rubber seal) and the rubber seal. The hooks are attached by nylon ropes strong enough to hold the weight. Each rope goes up to the ceiling and through a pulley which is attached to a ceiling joist. The ropes run along the ceiling to the side above the car and through another set of pulleys attached to the ceiling. Then the ropes come down where I can grab them together and pull the hardtop up. Once the top is where I want it, I tie off the ropes to a heavy duty coat hanger that is attached to a wall stud (or heavy 2 X 4 in my case). Hopes this gives you some idea of what I've done. Pictures to follow when I get back home.
