Hardtop w/ 2002 defrost button
As winter is quickly approaching, I am in the market for a hardtop for my 2001 s2k. However, as storage space is all ready limited in the car, the idea of removing the cubby hhole behind the cup holder (or the hen cooker as I refer to it) for the defrost button is not preferred.
Hence my question:
Has any one considered getting the 2002 defrost button to replace the blank on the right side of the drivers wheel for this application? Seems like Honda would do this for pre 2002 hardtop installs, but so do many other things...
Would Honda wire this, or would I have to?
Thanks,
Toby

I would think you would have to do it yourself or pay Honda to do it for you. The car is somewhat already prewired for the defroster button in the center console. Also, there does not appear to be a button that you can get for the blank on the dash unless you want to use the same button on the other side of the dash.

This is the button for the defroster for the glass window of the convertible top. If you were to get the hard top, would the defroster for it be wired the same as it is currently and hence, have the button in the same place as it is now? Or do you think it would use the same button for both but use some kind of diverter mechanism so that you don't power both defrosters when the HT is on since the soft top glass is still there only folded down?

xviper-
"At HONDA We Make it Simple" - remember that slogan?
My guess, and that is what it is, a guess. One button controls both defrosters in soft and hard top. When the hard top is installed you unplug the wire connector going to the soft top and plug it into the hard top. Job done.

OH NO!
That's where my PIAA fog light switch is. . .
LOL! Nice pics. . .and still that little slot for the loose change! Maybe you'll have some now that the dealers won't have them for $5k or $7k over sticker!

Perhaps some one who has seen the MY 2002 service manual could comment on how the wiring is set up.
Hopefully we can get this information. This seems like the best set up for pre-glass model years.
Thanks,
Toby
