hardtops
Mine has the oval on it already. I ordered through a Honda employee and they asked me for my vin# when I ordered. I wonder why they even assign vin#s to the hardtop? They don't put that on other Honda parts...
No problems with mine. The gap issue has been noted on a previous thread and is normal. The important thing is that the top rubber seal meets the rubber/vinyl trim on the car.
ps. Did you get the oval sticker with the VIN on it for the hardtop? Was it with the top or did it get mailed to you afterwards?

Installation on my top was relatively easy and makes the s2k look like like a different car! Only problem I have is a missing rubber snubber that holds the soft top down when the hard top is on. Honda tapes the vin plate to the outside of the shipping box and mine was missing due to the shipping box apparently having been hit by a forklift at that location. No damage to the top, but the vin plate was gone. Trevor, at HandA, is handling the replacements.
The top fits according to the install instructions with no unusual gaps. Did notice that the driver side 'B' pillar is about 1/8" farther back than on the passenger side. Doesn't seem to make any difference though - hardtop is water tight and makes for a much quieter interior.
Now that we are getting record warm temps. here in New England, I just had to take the HT off and enjoy the top down country twisties.

I had mine done at the dealer, and they put this grease or silicon on the weather stripping. I know it's to prevent leaks, but it's ugly to have all this stuff on the rubber. Also, it's smearing the windows. I'm tempted to wipe that crap off. Anyone else with this problem?
That's just the silicone grease. I use Silicone Emulsion from GM. You're supposed to put it on all the seals, let stand for a couple of minutes and wipe off the excess. I'll bet the install guy didn't wipe off the excess. The seals suck up whatever it needs. The rest just sits there. In time, the environment draws it out and you have to re-apply.
Anybody try to remove/replace the hardtop on your own? Note: I'm not talking installation guys. 44 lbs is not heavy at all. That's like doing military presses with two 20 lbs dumbells. However, balance may be difficult.
