Default Has anyone tried drifting?

Is it a fun time or not worth it because it beats the hell out of your car? There is a monthly drift event at Englishtown in NJ coming up that I am interested in checking out. Apparently you just go up there and you can drift for a couple of hours.

I took a class in it. Managed to plant myself into a wall but, it was damn fun up to that point. The S2K's made for drifting. It'll rotate at the drop of a hat. 1/2 the other drivers had to use hand brakes or put snow tires on the back to initiate one. With the '2k, you just added power and away she goes.

I didn't think it was particularly taxing on the car. Once the tires start slipping, it doesn't take much to keep them going. Crank the steering, add power and countersteer.

If I had it to do over again, I think I could have avoided the wall if I'd disabled ABS. Sometimes when you lose it, you just need to plant both feet and have it slide straight down the track. With the ABS on, you'll end up not locking up and drive straight off the track instead. Pull the fuse if you're going to drift.

i find this car partictularly hard to drift. i think the 50/50 balance makes it hard.

i planted my car into a wall too, but not from drifting, but oversteer coming out of a corner at a roadcourse.

i practice drifting and control of my car by some local parking lots at night sometimes, my friends 240sx seems to be a lot easier to control thru the turn and more stable, the 240 seems more predictable.

when the s2ks rear end comes out, it usually comes out all the way.

thats my .02 cents

So true...

My friend used to have an AP1 that we would play around with tryin to drift... I found that car pretty hard to drift consistently... snap oversteer would often times rear its ugly head and i'd end up facing the direction I came rather than sliding the back end... my friend, who owned the car, was a little better at it than I but he would end up spinning it many times as well.

I have since purchased an AP2 and I can say that car drifts fairly well... Honda did a good job of making oversteer much more predictable when revising the suspension for the AP2. Sometimes while riding late at nite I'll downshift entering a corner, swing it hard, apply some gas, and countersteer thru it when the back end steps out.

I don't really worry about the backend coming around in the AP2 like i did in my friends AP1.
