Default Has your weekend toy (s2k).....

....become your daily driver?

I bought my s2k in late 2010 with the sole purpose of it being my fun car. I have a beater mazda pickup as my supposed daily. However, in just 3 years i racked up 50k miles in the S, and I only use my beater truck for costco trips, hauling stuff, rain weather, etc.. I hate the fact that i put so many miles on the S, but its just so damn fun to NOT drive it. Any of you go the same route as me?

I skipped all pretenses and bought it to be a fun car AND a daily driver. When I need to haul stuff, I just plan according to how small my trunk is.

That's what I'm afraid is going to happen when I get an S. I plan on it just being my weekend fun car, but I have a feeling it will become my daily.

So on one hand I just want to sell my current daily so I can spend that money on wheels or coilovers.. but on the other hand, I wouldn't have anything to drive on bad weather days.

Decisions.

I don't have enough money to afford a daily driver and an S. Well I do, but I'm not going to roll around in a 1991 Honda Accord while I have an S in the garage. I am looking to retire my s2000 here soon though. It will be garaged after I purchase a motorcycle this summer. Two impractical vehicles, a perfect combination for a single guy!

I wouldn't mind driving a daily around.. but paying insurance on 2 cars is not something I really want to do. Especially since I am only paying for liability on my current car, and I would be adding a full coverage convertible on top of that.

But hey. Two impractical vehicles will mean that you'll never be asked to use your vehicles to help move a everybody and their brother

I bought mine to be a track car and just a fun car overall. It'll never be a true daily for me as I won't take it out in the salty winters. I do drive it often, but if I go somewhere that the car will sit outside all day, I just drive my diesel truck, which I bought of a daily and to tow the car to and from track. I really don't have much fun with the car on the street... It's pretty slow in the acceleration department, so I get my fix on track with it.

Nope. Still a weekend / good weather car for me.
I knew that this was what the S would be for me when I got it.

It's not like only driving it a few times a month or only in good weather mean I like the car less.
Indeed, I look forward to those days when I'll take it out for spin... er... drive.

I did kind of the reverse. Bought it to be my daily (since I could only afford one nice car at the time), but after a while I got a more comfortable (though almost as impractial) daily. I really feel that I appreciate the S the most when I DON"t drive it every day. If you drive a beater most days, then it's all the more fun to get in the S and drive it like it was meant to be driven. Having a daily also means I don't put that many miles on it and it will be around that much longer

yup, having a beater definitely makes you appreciate the S2K. Driving the S2K everyday, you become numb to how special it is.

i find myself becoming numb to its charms, and refalling in love almost weekly. i had another daily, and the 'i wish i had my s right meow!' was a constant feeling. I now only have the s, but am planning on picking up an old neon so i can have something for when i have the money to do the much needed high mile maintenance.

its definitely not a 'good daily'- its loud, rough, and very stressful to drive in bad weather but once the rain stops- after pulling over and putting the top back in its correct position- its like riding into heaven.
