hate when this happens - need feedback
I had sold a used bumper and a brand new OEM lip to this fellow S2000 member. I shipped it to him FedEx insured. Upon him receiving it he told me that the bumper is not what he had expected as it had functional ducts opposed to the fake stock OEM ones on the bumper. I thought I had made it perfectly clear but obviously not.
Not big deal...ship it back to me and I will refund your money minus my freight to your location...*shake hand* ... done.
I got the bumper yesterday and today, I opened it up so I could send the guy his money back. I opened it, as I had the lip sold to another member but to my surprise the lip is cracked pretty severely.
I had almost sent the guy his money back yesterday. Now...what would the proper action be? The bumper was wrapped in bubble wrap about 5 times and then reinforced with thick cardbore, shrink wrapped, bubble wrapped again, reinforced again and shrink wrapped again....almost indestructable. The guy that received it HAD to open it partly to inspect it but it was clear he did not unwrap the whole thing...yes, there is a chance it was damaged when I shipped it up there.
The easiest thing is for him to file a claim with UPS, right? How long do shippers allow for this claim? What would I have to do on my end? I feel bad for the other guy but...what can I do? Since the lip is useless to me now, should I just refund the "bumper" portion...?? It is scraped a bit where that crack on the lip is but not that bad, specially since it was used....feedback and comments please....

Just refund him for the bumper and have him file a claim with FedEx for the damage. Otherwise, you will have to file a claim with UPS. I believe the recipient is the one that has to file the claim. The shipping co is going to want to inspect the goods, so make sure you keep everything.
Buena suerte, compadre.

isn't your stuff urethane also? I hear of fiberglasscracking all the time but urethane?
Needless to say he is ticked and I can certainly understand. I will send him 1/2 the money for the bumper and will try to resolve the situation with UPS. However, do I need to get some sort of proof that the package was insured at least? If it was not insured upon shipping, it will be a pain in the ass then....
I thought all packages with ups and fedex were automatically insured for the declared value of the item being shipped - thats entirely down to the value that was put on the shipping docket.
when making a claim (got one with fedex right now), you have to realise that EITHER the shipper or recipient can make a claim - they will however was to see proof of shipment and proof of value. They will also want to inspect the damaged item, so keep it and keep the packaging too.
No matter who makes the claim though, the shipping company will always refund the SHIPPER not the recipient (I know this for sure with fedex and im pretty sure its the same with ups). It is then up to the recipient to get reimbursed from the shipper.
You might want to check this with your shipping company, because you wouldnt want to be refunding your original guy any money, as he will be getting a check from ups/fedex. Youll be out the goods, original money and then the refund too!
Timewise, they always say itll be done within 7-10 days, but rarely is. My claim is just over a month now, and they havent inspected the goods yet.
Good luck!
