Default Have you been hit by an idiot?

I have a theory...OK, maybe a crackpot one, but check it out. I wonder if the rate that more silver cars seem to get hit by an idiot and then claiming that they didn't see the car is high because of the paint color itself. If you think about it, silver CAN blend in with the roadway/parking lot.

Not trying to start another color war, you all know what I think!

But I'm wondering if there is something to this theory...

So, if you have been hit in this fashion, put your color down and let's see how the stats work out. This could be interesting...or, then again, maybe not... Humor me...

A poll like this is going to be hard to gather real meaningful data, but if you have a black car, for example, and have been hit by an idiot, vote black. We can't really account for people here who have been hit multiple times by idiots...

I tried voting but the damn thing didn't work......anyway,

I was rear-ended last year in my silver Integra on a clear Sunday afternoon. It was an older guy not paying attention and he plowed into the back of me while stopped at a light.

Greg,

I couldn't vote either.

I got hit in the rear of my very BRIGHT YELLOW Prelude last September. The guy was watching the street light we were sitting at turn from red to green.

What he didn't see was the three cars in front of me hadn't even started moving, as such, I hadn't started moving either.

Hey who was the Silver Stook owner that got hit by his wife. . .was that Rick? I wonder if he'll vote when he gets back from vacation. . .

I haven't been hit in my Silver S2K and I HOPE it won't happen. I do feel like it blends into the road to much. If it becomes too much of a problem I guess I could move to UT or AZ where many of the roads are red.

A week before I bought the S2000 I was hit by an idiot driving over 50 mph faster than the rest of the traffic on the road. She said she didn't see my red Miata until just before she hit me. Years ago I was driving a red 1964 Corvette with yellow and orange flames across the front, hood, and sides. (It was like that when I bought it, I painted all red.) A sweet little old lady in a big Int. P/U came flying out of a shopping center parking lot, crossed a 5 lane highway chased me into a church yard and broad-sided me. Yep, I saw her coming and drove way off into a church yard to try to escape but she caught me. She said that she pushed on her brakes in the shopping center parking lot and her truck started going faster so she pushed the brake to the floor and it went a lot faster. She had traveled over a 100 yards with the GAS not the Brake on the floor. After she hit me she realized she was pushing the wrong one.

So I've been hit by two idiots and both times I was driving a red car.

I was rearended in my silver two months ago by a ninety (yes, 90) year old lady who's defense was "I thought you were moving slowly." Well, STOPPED is slow! Did I mention she was uninsured!?!?

Funny how the gas and brake pedals on those Nimitz-class vehicles just exchange functions sometimes, no? Same thing once happened to my neighbor (whom I already knew to be an idiot) while she was backing her gigantic De Ville out of the dock, er, garage. She shot across the road and demolished the rear end of the car on a pine tree, shearing off the tree in the process.

Given my usual luck with these things, I was surprised and gratified that my own car was in the garage and not behind her when it happened. I understand she sued GM for selling her an unsafe vehicle. I like to imagine that GM paid her off on condition she would only buy Fords in the future.

My Black Saab was just plowed into 2 days ago by a woman going reverse down a one way street in front of a elementary school no less.

Every car I have owned has been black and everyone of them has gotten hit by some idiot who claims they never saw me. Including the guy who hit my eclipse while it was parked and continued to back into it even as I was banging on his car telling him to stop.

I've never liked silver cars much and one of the reasons is how "invisible" they become in rain/fog/low light conditions. I even had a theory that the last people to turn their lights on in those conditions were the drivers of silver cars. (Remember, you don't turn your lights on in the rain and fog to improve your vision, you do it so that other people can see you!)

When I bought my first car years and years ago, I actually researched the visibility of various colors. Yellow was determined to be the most visible color so that's what I bought. In spite of this, I was rear-ended twice in three years in that car. My next car was white, the second most visible color, and that car was rear-ended five times!

In the white car, I was so paranoid about being rear-ended, that this would be a typical scenario:

I want to turn right into the gas station that's just across the street while I'm sitting at a red light. I wait until I start moving into the intersection to turn on my blinker, I even tap the brake lights a couple of times to get the driver's attention behind me, I start to turn into the gas station and WHAM! he hits me anyway!

Another time, same car, I'm sitting second at a light with a car in front and behind me. It had just started snowing (this was in Detroit) and it was the first snow of the winter. The car in front of me starts out, gets to the middle of the intersection and stalls. I pumped my brakes (before ABS) and came to a stop, the guy behind me slams on his brakes and plows into me, sandwiching me between both cars, damaging both my front and rear bumpers, hood and trunk!

To make matters worse, exactly one week later, I'm now driving my girlfriend's Rabbit (light green metallic), sitting stopped at a red light at night with my brakes on and some idiot in a beater van comes over the hill behind me and slams into me, without even braking, at about 45 MPH. He "didn't see me", had been drinking, had no insurance and then he took off. The Rabbit was six months old, sustained $2,000 in damage (on a $6,000 car). Because of the "no-fault" law in Michigan at that time, I was responsible for the $250 deductible on both cars and had no recourse.

Idiots are everywhere, no matter what color car you drive. Fortunately, I haven't been hit now in years.
