Honestly I never noticed that. I also would like to know if there's a reason.

The two pictures you provide are so completely different that it's impossible to make a comparison. Find two photos of the engines that can be compared "side by side" instead of a shot of an H22 sitting on the floor with all the accessories hanging off of it.

Supposing you can find two nearly identical pictures, I'm not even sure comparing them would be relevant. The F20C was designed to as compact as Honda's 1.6L VTEC motors, this was so that it could fit behind the front wheels of the S2000.

hahahaha lol ^^^^^^^^^^

90crvtec calm down lol. thanks for the info on being compact..
i cant find a great side shoot of the H22

but i noticed that most of the area covered in RED (valve cover) on the S2k is part of the block on the H22.

OK, I think this is an 'optical illusion' of sorts. I'll agree that the valve cover is taller on the F20/F22 however, the motors are entirely different from their H series cousins. The S2000 has a timing chain and is distributorless. Compare this to the belt driven H series motors that still have bulky distributors attached to the engine. This is part of why the valve cover on the H22 is not as tall, the distributor and cam gears for the timing belt need to be attached to the cams, causing a different design compared to the F20C.

I'd be surprised of the overall height of the F20C is really taller than an H22. The F22 and H22 both have the same bore/stroke. The F20 might be a bit taller but again, they're two completely different designs so I wouldn't expect them to be similar. FWIW, the sump capacity in the F20 is larger, possibly causing a bigger oil pan, perhaps causing the motor to be taller?
