Default Headers: Worth the money?

OK, I know this has probably been on here, 3 or 4 hundred times, Im just having the worst time with the search. So, if there is another topic with all this information just lead me the way to it.

I have been told a number of times that getting a header for the S2000 was not a very good idea/pointless because the stock headers are very good already...
Is that true?

There are some different ones that are supposed to work well:J's, Rick's,.... but the cost is up there? Would the money be better spent elsewhere ($1000) in the performance area? How?

My current thoughts have been to go I/H/E and get Rick's 4.56 gears, (and maybe eventually go FI or keep building up the engine without it,) but that would be all for a little while.

You won't gain much from an aftermarket header. The S2K is pretty well tuned out. If your looking for more power FI is what you'll need to do.

If you have the choice, do the gears over any bolt on's. You will notice more of a difference with those alone.

Goodluck!

i was planning to get Headers too but after some research, I understood that it is not a mod worth $1000. You should get Rick's if you really want one. My opinion save some more and go FI. Also definitely get the gears. I have the 4.57s. Didn't get them installed yet but I heard it is the best bang for the buck

Which gears are the best for a daily driver, weekend/mustang/bored at a stoplight racer?

So how does, if I dont go FI, intake/exhaust/flywheel/VTEC controller/gears sound?

Your setup sounds good. Headers do add some, but whether it's worth the $750 I think for a Rick's is up to each person. I think it's a good idea. It adds up to 5hp throughout the range. It trails off at the end, but with a VAFC the AFR might be able to adjust it at the end.
Comptech Intake - 5
T1r 70r - 15
Flywheel - 5
VAFC - Depends on some basic tuning, seen up to 12.

That will yield some great results, and I would recommend 4.44 or 4.56 gears. I personally went for 4.44 because I do so much freeway driving, but it depends on you. Also with these mods, you can get an SC later without changing them out!

I have the Toda header. I never have dyno'ed my car but it felt much smoother accelerating after the header.

Hey, just out of curiosity, what about the OBX Racing header? I know that it might not have the R&D time behind it as some of the others do, but for about $280 shipped it doesn't seem like a bad header. Any opnions or experiances?

Here's a link to one:

From what I understand, on the S2000 you can easily spend a few thousand bucks on I/H/E.....depending on what brand and where you buy the parts....and only gain somewhere around 10 horsepower.

Thats a bit too much money for such a modest gain.

OBX is the same thing with DC Sports.
