Default Heat under Center Console

I've had my S for about a month now and sometimes i notice quite a bit of heat coming from around my cupholder area, ebrake, area, and the shifter itself is warm. It happens every now and then and sometimes i dont even notice any heat. I was wondering if something is wrong or is it normal to have heat coming from the center. It feels like the heater is on low when it happens.

My S is an 02 with ap2 center console if that matters. 42k miles. I chanegd all fluids including tranny fluid at 40k. Any advice would help. Thanks

If you look very carefully, you should find a tranny, underneath the console.

I'd be willing to bet that most of the heat comes from the exhaust pipes which also run under there. The transmission should probably never see the high side of 200 degrees F which really isn't that hot.

I used to think the heat came from the transmission, and maybe some of it does. However, after unbolting my exhaust just behind the cat for a night of obnoxiously loud fun, I realized it is probably the exhaust because on that night it got REALLY hot around the console.

Nothing to worry.
You should touch mine with a 3" turbo-heated pipe under it.
