Heatwrap your catback
I have done various dynamat/quietcoat soundproofing steps to kill the drone of my resonator less magnaflows in this thread...
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.ph...pic=275932&hl= Edit:  Got an Invidia and wrapped it from what I learned on the magnaflows. INSANE Heartthrobbing sound and NO DRONE  Invidia Tamed https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=414220 After hearing how much LOUDER (guess-imat about 50% louder at WOT ) my exhaust is with a testpipe, I got a lucid moment :smoking: and came up with a GREAT idea that hits the drone at its source. I used header wrap from the testpipe all the way back to the muffler can. Not only does it IMPROVE the scavenging/flow velocity of the exhaust by keeping the heat in the pipe (hot air moves faster/less dense), you greatly REDUCE the center console heating while at the same time ELIMINATE the pipe harmonic UNDER the cabin. THREE great RESULTS!!!! and you maintain the exhaust note behind/outside the car!! If you've gone through the process of opening up/lightening up your exhaust path AND you have a drone issue, 2-3 rolls of heatwrap (weight =>1.5 lbs) will do wonders for your S enjoyment :) Jet Hot coated Ricks 4-2-1 header and resonated testpipe. ****To minimize turbulence in the exhaust stream, I am keeping both O2 sensors out of the exhaust flow by stepping them back with a drilled out anti-fouler.**** no CEL after 100 mi so far. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...486d89994a.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...7a3d4595ac.jpg Some before shots of my resonator-ectomy 2.5 inch exhaust piping...this section only cost $25 installed  https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...d48e8b214e.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...414a494d0c.jpg 100 feet of 1 inch Copper Header Wrap covered 5 feet of piping... testpipe to exhaust Y. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...f6d7bf9d2a.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...1e89102c34.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...eec01ee370.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...b6fd7fc039.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...074ba8f82a.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...87562a941f.jpg More to follow :) |
Gotta mention the weight savings here
stock header 29 lbs stock cat 15 lbs stock resonator 15 lbs stock mufflers 40 lbs total 99 lbs Ricks header 14 lbs resonated testpipe 6 lbs magnaflows 16 lbs total 36 lbs 63 lbs saving  |
wow. good job . i was thinking about doing the same. how much was it for the wrap and stuff.
|
Where can you get this heat wrap at? The local hardware store?
|
Hers's the header wrap link
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/ep/exh...components.html 100 feet of the best stuff runs $60ish. I used the 1 inch wide type because it gives a cleaner look. |
I just have to warn you about the damage your cat back will suffer with that wrap on there when it gets wet. The wrap will hold water thus defeating the evaporation process that an unwraped exhaust goes through when it gets wet. It's the heat of an unwrapped system that keeps it dry and free from corosion.
I speak from experience. I had a stainless header basically disolve over a matter of 6 months. Good luck... looks good btw. |
Wait a minute, you already Jet Hot coated it, why wrap it? For more reduction?
|
What is the total weight gain on all that wrap?
