Default Hella Replacement Horns

Has anyone had any experience with the Hella replacement horns on the S2000? I know some people have installed the FIAMM horns, but I havent seen anything on these.

I was considering the non-air horn variety.

This is the cheapest one, its only $25 and probably would be adequate to enhance the wimpy stock horn, I suppose. I have no idea of the sound. They look very small so they can probably be easily concealed. I would assume the install SHOULD be easy since they are no airhorns. (any ideas guys?)

These are the most expensive of the Hella horns at $65. The quote from the company is "This is a serious horn," which means its probably loud enough to give the elderly heart attacks.

Anyone have an expertise on these items, and/or the installation of these items on the S2000???

Thanks!

I don't know much about the horns, but I know that Hella makes good products. My dad's chevy tahoe had many Hella products on it and they were awesome. So I figure their horns are good too (especially their most expensive one ... come on now, you know you want your horn to give heartattacks here and there).

I was hoping for something more plug and play than the airhorns. It looks like its a pain to mount then in the car. I guess I wonder if any of these would be plug and play?

Actually I installed the FIAMM horns according to Tedster's excellent instructions here:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...highlight=fiamm

Horn is sooo much better now and gets people on the move!

The install took about 15mins to do total. 30 mins if you want to count taking the bumper off.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Performance Buyer's Club has an air horn kit for the Miata that comes with mounting brackets. You bolt the compressor in place of the stock horn bracket, and the twin horns into a pre-existing threaded hole, then string the hose. There might be a similar kit for the S2000, or maybe the Miata kit would be easy to adapt.

I would expect you to need brackets for whichever horns you buy.

The problem with the air horns isn't the install, but the fact that they draw more current than the stock horn. If they're not on a beefy circuit, you can blow the fuse. On the Miata, the horn and brake lights share a fuse. Some people complained that they blew the fuse by braking and honking at the same time. I didn't believe it. In fact, I tried it in my garage and didn't blow the fuse. But sure enough, one night on the freeway I honked and hit the brakes, and later on discovered that the fuse had blown. I am either going to put in an auxiliary circuit using a relay, or get some electromechanical horns like the Serious Auto Wicked Loud Horn kit. I didn't get that kit in the first place because the sound is so absurd coming out of a Miata.

Some people have also complained that the air horns need to be cleaned and/or lubricated periodically, or else they stop working.

Keith-

I have the second set of Hella horns you listed installed. They are very loud and have saved me in a few parking lot situations. Having been almost run off the road while honking away w/ the stock horns I definitely recommend these.

The horns came with a relay (pictured on the page you referenced) and inline fuse that you will find necessary (unless you like having your brake lights die on you) and even I was able to pull this off in an afternoon. I mounted both horns up to the central, vertical frame member that the old stock horn was mounted to and just followed the included instructions to convert the wiring from supporting a single horn to supporting the pair.
