Keep in mind that most filters hold close to a quart of oil. So if you change the oil but not the filter, you're mixing about 4.5 quarts of clean oil with about 1 quart of dirty oil. If doing 75-80% of the job suits you, knock yourself out. I'll change my filter every time.

ScottH, I just had my center console replaced under warranty, I took it off myself so I could replace the crappy vinyl shift boot with Ricks black leather boot w/blue stitching. Looking much better now!!
What TSB is this? What's it for? Thanks, --Ben

There is only one advantage to not changing the filter that I can think of. And I'm not advocating it...

When you first start the engine with a new filter, there's a short period of time when the oil isn't flowing yet. If you re-use your filter, you reduce this time, although (of course) you end up pumping a small amount of the old oil in.

That's the only (and lame, I admit) reason I can think of for not changing the filter with the oil. I totally agree with you guys on this score. As for when to change the oil/filter... That's always been debated here, ad nauseum.

I have about 5.2k on mine right now. I change both, oil and filter, every 3k ml or 3 months. HECK!, I even changed out the original MTF and diff fluid at the first 3k ml!!! Call me ridiculous.

Although this may not be so applicable today, I'm reminded of an old addage a mechanic friend told to me some 30 years ago.
If you put 4 qts of clean, new oil in with a dirty oil filter, you'll just have 4 qts of dirty oil.

If 5 bucks is going break your piggy bank every 3000 miles, go "online" and find yourself a Lada. I understand that you only need one filter after you get the thing running. It won't run long enough for you to do another oil change.

The by-product of combustion, as we all know, is water, so moisture is a consideration.

For reference the TSB is # 03-012 which will correct the lift up problem at the back of the center console. I do not believe the dealer will replace the entire center console, unless the repair will not work.

Cause: The padding for the center floor mat pushes up the back of the center console.

Correction: Cut the center floor mat where the center console ribs touch, and stick 35 mm squares of wool felt over the ribs. P/N 06993-SA5-000.H/C 2086676
