Damn already?!?!

It's likely just the clear coat that is scratched. It can probably be wetsanded and buffed out. Check with a quality paint and body shop. I wouldn't attempt it myself for fear of making it worse. If the base coat is scratched (you can see the metal/primer) then that's a problem that will require paint be put back on. If the scratch is white then it's the clear coat and can be sanded out and fixed without painting.

Cheers and Merry Christmas!

You can use a fine rubbing compound or a fine grit wet-paper like 800+ grit. I would start with the finest grit you can find like 1200 first and only go courser if you must. Do it by hand, keep it plenty wet and rub in a back and forth motion, not circular. It will take some serious elbow grease. Don't become impatient or you will scuff the paint and dull it. Just work the scratch back and forth applying lots of water and don't press to hard.

I should point out that you are not removing the scratch, just smoothing the edges of it so it doesn't reflect the light. It will be there you just will have a hard time seeing it. I offer no guarantees or warranty. Do at your own risk.

try toothpaste first..[apply with a damp rag and buff with a clean dry one..no paper towels please!]..it will often remove shallow scratches....also your car will smell minty sweet!

Hey cthree,

just in case others are wanting to use this mothod of wet sanding, in what direction do you sand? With (or parallel) or perpendicular to the scratch?
