Help
Heh, I would like to just get it replaced BUT since is doesn't happen all the time what are the chances it WOULD happen when the dealer took it for his little test drive? With my luck it would run perfectly...
I would probably have to go with him just to show him...oh yea...and to make sure he didnt 11K my tach while he was out doing his little test...
Can you tell I'm a little bitter?

'symroad,,,yup,,, i knew about that issue, (the 3 bar thing) after the first time i did that BEFORE car was warmed up
but this problem is exactly what the others have described here,,, car is warmed up more than enough, i guess i will just take it in and have em look at it anyway and see what they say.
its just really weird though cuz when i go to the dealer i know more about the car than they do thanks to all of you and the info i have learned from this board

I had the same problem, and it was the MAP sensor. I did the temporary fix of rapping on it, and it is fine now. The thing that really gets me is that the dealer still claims that Honda has not put out any information on this, and they won't replace the MAP sensor. Someone needs to ring Honda's bell on this one!

RT...hehehehe good idea. Damn!!! only $43 , hell, I am just gonna do what you said and replace the damn thing myself.
You are totally right. For the time I would spend bitching at the dealer, giving him my car for a day and then saying he has no clue, I could just buy one and replace the damn thing myself. Damn, thats a great idea.
Thanks
p.s. I like the bowling ball idea to. Kinda like that old Discount Tire company when the old lady throws the tire throught the window.
Wonder what the dealer here would charge? hmmmm

Aran, It would be great that since you've seemed to confirm the sensor problem that the dealer would just listen to what you tell them, test it, and replace it. I've only had my s2000 for a few weeks but I can agree with Zot- every interaction I've had with three different dealers in my area has been such a waste of time ( not to mention aggravating ) that I'll be avoiding the dealer like the plague. There is tons of useful info on this site- I hope I'll be able to add to it at some point.

Zot - I was hoping it wasn't the MAP sensor, but $43 isn't much at all.
I twitch every time I have to say MAP sensor. My '88 Integra had a map sensor problem. It took over six moths and could have cost me a $1,000 bucks to fix. The only indication was that the Check Engine light came on with a O2 sensor code displayed. I replaced it for $100. Didn't fix the problem. I took it to a local mechanic, he said it was over his head. By this time I had figured out that all I had to do was turn on the car and rev to 2000 rpm for 30 seconds to recreate the problem. I broke down and took it to the dealer. I told them how to recreate the problem and that it was not the engine sensor. I go to pick up the car, they had replaced the O2 sensor for $250. I started the car, reved to 2000 and the check engine light came on. Next day I stormed into the dealer, I told them to take it out and give me my money back. About the time I was ready to throw the service manager through the window, he gave me my money back. Next I went to a junk yard and bought a used ECU for $150. I tried it out in the parking lot, found out it didn't work. I was back inside within 2 minutes so the guy gave me my money back. The junk yard guy recommended a mechanic that did a lot of engine replacements. I took it to John. Within an hour John figured out that the engine was running so lean that the O2 sensor could not detect the air/fuel ratio (that's why the ECU was blaming the O2 sensor). He had the car for three days. He worked on it until 11:00 pm every day. My guess was that he put in about 20 hours. He replace the spark plugs, fuel injectors, etc. The only engine part he had left to replace was the MAP sensor. He swapped it out and Bingo the problem went away. Fortunately he had many blown engines lying around, so the parts were "no cost". The MAP sensor new would have been $350. Now remember, I figured he spent 20 hours working on this thing. He charged me $125. I gave the man $250 cause I wanted him to stay in business.
O2 sensor #1 $100 parts
Local guy $ 50 not charged
Dealer $250 refunded
ECU $150 refunded
John 20hr@40$800 charged $125, paid $250.
$1,350
Time spent 6 months
So pardon me when I stutter saying mmmmMAP ssssSensor.
