the molding or just the tonneu cover? The soft top cover is connected with two stretch snaps that clip onto the plastic trim next to the car and at two or four places behind the roll hoops (same system as the snaps on the elastic parts). I think there are four places for 00-01 and only two for 02-06. You have to raise the back and pull the little buttons out from the inside. Reach in and you'll feel it. The trick is to push the cover toward the roll hoop while pulling the button back. It can be a pain sometimes.

Hope that's what you meant.

I tried to get some pictures. The piece that is taped off. It's looking a little rough but we're about to paint it. I want to take the molding off before I paint it, but it's giving me a hard time. My finger is pointing at the molding that I need to remove. I tried to use the directions however I had no luck.

It is a lot of work. I had to do it to paint my rear quarter panel. Basically you remove everything you need to to detach the back of the softtop and then you can get to the bolts. It was about a 3 to 4 hr job for me. Remove the tray and all rear moulding. Remove the reinforcing that holds the rear of the softtop in place. Pull back the top and then unbolt the trim. The forward most bolts on the trim are a bitch to get to. You may need a new wrench and small fingers. I used a ratchet wrench with the correct bend to it.

Then it is even harder to put those two bolts back in.
