Default HELP

my car burns too much oil or something. i havent seen any signs of oil leaks. it has 57k miles. i don drive hard.. occasionally vtec on the weekends. and it is my daily driver.

i do oil change every 5000 miles. i just changed my oil to mobil 1 at 55k. i checked the dip stick and it's half below the low mark.. and when i did oil change at 55k, after putting in about a quart just few days before the oil change, i only drained out about 2.4 quart out. which means that i had only about 1 and half quart left in my car.

any advice?

Get some Krank vents.

Oh, and get your motor inspected first.

Lots of people lose/burn oil faster running a synthetic, Mobil 1 seems to go particularly fast in the F20C. You could swith to a quality conventional to cut consumption.

I couldn't really tell from your post what your consumption rate is, if it's more than a quart per 2000 miles or so on a street driven car, you probably have an issue with your motor. Good luck
Mike

what can be wrong with the engine specifically?

could it be temperature under the hood? because i have a cf hood without a heat shield, so the hood gets really hot. so the temperature under the hood is high too and in turn the engine might be hotter?

dont wait to check oil every 5000 miles. check every 1k or every other weekend. i burn a quart every 2k miles, add a quart then change at 3k using mobil 1. i've since changed to conventional and seems to be burning less. manual actually suggests to check oil at every fill up.

There are a myriad of things which could be wrong, but none of them have anything to do with your hood.
That insulator is there to protect your HOOD from heat, not your motor.
The manual does say to check your oil at every fill up. I cannot imagine getting 3 quarts low on a car that I know to use oil. If you were indeed running 3 quarst low as you said in your first post, that could have caused all kinds of problems with your motor to cause it to use even MORE oil.

Yeah, you're going to burn the engine up, if you haven't damaged it already by not checking more often. With your consumption, I'd probably check once a day.

I'd probably start by replacing the PCV valve. I suspect most oil consumption's through the PCV system. Of course, you might have a messed up motor, running it low on oil will do that. If the engine's messed up, typically oil consumption's caused by bad rings and/or bad valve seals. If you don't have a mis-fire CEL code, I wouldn't suspect bad rings. Not yet anyway.

Because modern car's use CAT's, you don't see that many smokey cars any more. Most of the oil smoke is consumed by the cat. You're car would probably leave a smoke screen if it wasn't for the cat.

Mine burns one quart,every 1500 miles,when driven hard,and it's perfectly normal.
BUT,I DO check the oil, once in a while, and not every 5000 miles.

I would invest in a pair of krank vents first off. Also just make it a habit to check your oil every time you get gas.
