Default Help: Car battery!

Okay, since i am storing the car for 3 months. I have just taken out the battery so that it wouldnt drain.

I was wondering, should i connect it to a charger while it's out of the car? And if i should how long should i charge it for, and how many times?(ex. once a week for 2 hours.....)

Will the battery slowly die down eventhough it's not connected to anything right now?

And one more thing, the indicator on the batter is blue with the red circle in the middle, so that means it's okay right now. So do i even have to charge it?

Thanks so much for all your help.

Alex

if the battery is fairly new the 3 month rest should be no problem.

I've always heard to never store a battery directly on concrete. Dunno why...

Chiung - Depends on the battery but for the most part not a real problem:

F20C_S2k - http://www.inct.net/~autotips/battstor.htm

Basically gives same advice as HotRodSoul.

Check it and recharge if necessary in the spring. Also, make sure your radio
code is handy.

I found this; sorry about how detailed it is but I think your answer on charge time is at the bottom of the page. The rest of the info is quite handy too but it does seem to assume a completely dead battery.

http://www.optimabattery.freeserve.co.uk/b...FAQ/carfaq9.htm

Check this one too; has some good comments on the use of various types of chargers. It is possible to overcharge a battery and according to the info here, the type of charger you use has a big effect on how much risk there is of an overcharge.

I think for the most part, for a 3 month storage, as long as the indicator on the battery still shows charge and its not otherwise leaking, damaged or corroded at the end of that time, you should be able to just put it back in without a whole lot of concern.

Hope this stuff helps you out.
