Default Help, Chances of Blowing Differential...

I got my S supercharged two weeks ago. Havent launched the car yet. What are the chances of blowing my differential when launching the car? Only adds to my car besides comptech supercharger are ACT clutch and apexi exhaust. Need help gonna go racing this weekend and dont want to blow anything up. Thanks.

Supercharger+ACT Clutch+clutch dropping= a blown differential AND axles.

Sorry.

If you don't launch, I'd say that the chances of you damaging your differential are fairly slim to none.

Launching and spinning the wheels certainly is fun, although the differential won't hold up to it long term. Some people don't have good luck with it, but I've launched hard probably upwards of 100-200 times. My differential is still OK now, although I worry about that piece (outside of my block) the most.

(Just FYI this is with a turbo'ed S, 400 horse at the crank)

I don't think one weekend of "racing" is going to hurt you too much.

Has anyone invested in any of Spoon's rear end replacement parts such as their carrier, differential, and axles?

NMs2000,

If I had a supercharger I would launch the car sparingly. I would not go to the drag strip and not launch too much above 6,000 RPM on the street. I would probably drop the hammer against a Z28 or a Cobra...but just slip the clutch against your everyday civic/prelude/integra.

Now with that ACT clutch of yours...I wouldn't drop the hammer at all. Wesmaster was dropping the clutch every weekend for a long ass time with no problems until he got an aftermarket clutch. I think he broke his axel and his diff., after he got the aftermarket clutch in. I believe because the aftermarket clutches grab extra hard...there is that extra shock delivered to your differential and axels.

I sure looked into it. The mounting piece won't do anything, it's not something that brakes. AJ Racing couldn't really tell me what it did. Their differential would probably be stronger, which helps. The bearing caps snapped in half on my differential assemly. This allowed the differential gears to bust open the differential housing. Oh, and I snapped the axles too. So what's a boy to do?

Kaaz Differential (up to 500 HP)- ~$950 - DONE
Comptech Billet Bearing Caps - ~$495 - DONE
Driveshaft Shop Stage III Axles (300-500 HP) - $1,000 (ordering in 1-2 weeks)
Cryogenic Treatment on the Diff Housing - ~$65 (doing in 1-2 weeks)

From what I can tell this should take care of the weak spots in the rear end. Now it's just time to mess up the transmission.

Wes, glad to see your strengthening project is coming along well. Make sure you read the thread by cmsnse about the problems with his tranny and the pump inside it.

I forgot to mention that the axles are only "balanced". They are re-worked stock axles, not strengthened axles.

P.S. I had to order new rotors, new pads, and new rear tires today. So much for my axles. Gonna have to postpone that.
