Default help on engine id

well my friend works at a shop where they did warranty work on a s2000. The center electrode in a stock denso spark plug dropped into one of the cyclinder's, i think 2 or 3 idk. Anyways my friend's shop that he works at was told by honda of america to keep the warranty work in their shop for 90 days after the warranty because they might call for it to be shipped back to Honda of America for warranty inspection purposes. Well it been way over 90 days and Honda of America has already paid the warranty work out and when asked about the Engine shortblock, Honda of America said they didnt need it to be shipped to them and it could be "junked" or whatever. I am now trying to sell this damaged shortblock and I cant find the VIN plate on the block therefore I am being accused of being a theif that stole this engine by a few ppl that have sought interest in this shortblock. I posted them pics to see the engine id number's (the numbers on the block deck surface that start with F20c1, but they are stating that there should be a green VIN tag rivited to the block), but i cannot seem to find this VIN plate rivited to the block. Where should these plate be located, cause i know this shortblock is legit and not stolen.

According to my manual (2002 model), pg 250 states that the VIN is located in two spots on the car, the dash and the firewall. The engine number is stamped on the left front corner of the engine block. That doesn't sound like a VIN though.

That's all the info I can find in my manual, sorry.

According to the Helm's manual (again, 2002 model), the VIN can also be found in the door. According to page 1-5, just the engine number is stamped on the block.

If the shortblock was not required by Honda after 90 days it belongs to the car owner and should be returned to him to sell or keep as he chooses. Most states have laws requiring shops to return such parts.

By the way. Engine VINs on our cars are often a few numbers different from the car VIN.

Actually it is owned by Honda. It should be field scraped. Honda paid for the repair, that means they own the spare parts. The owner was made whole by Honda.
