I need help from those of you on the board moe knowledgeable about sound system replacement. Is there a guide on this board in a previous post or member's site that takes you through head unit removal and component speaker installation. I'm having the work done this Friday and I want to ensure that these intallers do it right!

Also, do the doors have to be removed for speaker install? Is their a guide to removing the doors without affecting paint or hardware?

Finally, where can I get a factory repair manual for the S2000, as I will be doing additional mods in the future.

Thanks,

BigRedESS

First: Take your car to a reputable stereo shop (not Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.). A shop that specializes in car audio should have no problem replacing the factory head unit.

Second: The doors do not have to be removed, but the door panels do.

Third: No clue

I gues I'm about at the Curley level of knowledge when it comes to the head unit . I'll defer to Pinky on the head unit upgrade.

The doors stay on, the panels come off.

You can contact Helm for the manual at (800)782-4356 For some reason it's not listed on their website http://www.helm.com/

Seriously, good luck with the upgrade.

BigRedESS,

Check out my website click on 'Michelle', then 'modifications') for my expanded version of removing the door panels and replacing the stock speakers. The pictures aren't posted yet since I've been waiting for my clear turn signal replacements to show up to finish the roll, but I may go ahead and develop/scan the roll before the week is up.

Pulling the head out isnt hard. Taking the side panels off is not nessisary. Just get a smaller screw driver under the panel on each side of the tunnel and pull so it pops out a little.

Then work the top of the air vent area with a super small screw driver to pop that out.

It not hard but dont scratch anything. Take is slow.

Though before the head goes in I hope you got a way to keep your dash controls! If not contact me and I can help ya out there.

You got off easy. My centre panel took some persuading with a covered screwdriver, a hooked piece of coat hanger in the vents, and some tenacious tugging of the fold down door. Just be patient is my advice.

And look out for the spring clips that hold it in place. There are 7 if I remember correctly and they love to spring off and get lost in the center cavity.

The best resource for this whole procedure is accessible through S2000fans but is actually at:

and

And don't forget to drop by my Audio Upgrade page:

I got the head unit off really easy even without a screwdriver. All you do is lower the door to the stereo and hold it with both hands and gently pull it straight out until the bottom clips pop out. Then work your way around the air vents to get the clips out. voila.

I used Pinky's directions because I needed to pull the head unit out to get the serial # off it (I bought a pre-owned S2K and the code card was missing -- the dealer can only do a lookup via the serial #)...

The dealer said they'd charge 68 bucks to do it. But a stereo shop could probably do it for 20... Inside of 20 mins, I had the radio pulled out, the number written down, the car back in the garge, Honda called, and code written down for future reference.

my only regret is that I wasnt putting in a better radio

thanks again, Pinky!
