Default Help me buy a S2K need help with year

Help me buy a S2K need help with year.

I know i want a glass rear window, so at least 2002. But my major issue is all these people that seem to be having issues burning oil.

I like the looks of the AP1 front (headlights and bumper) also the tail lights. But is the AP2 have a better motor with less problems?

I would go with the AP2 due to it just having a better motor by that I mean not burning oil or do all them burn oil???

Please help me make a decision on what to look for.

Is it true that krank vents can stop the oil consumption?

Larry

all years of s2000's are uniqe in a way to me 00-01 wud be more likely to have problems just based on age and you get the plastic window most likely but the are the lightest s2000's best for modding in my opinion,, 02-03 is a better overall car if you like the rawness of ap1 and a 9k limit and are cheaper than ap2s, if i got a ap2 id go 04-05 cus they still have the cool seats with the holes by ur head, 06-09 i dont know much but i know there were a lot of minor changes vsa drive by wire ect... i personally when with a 03 cuz it was cheaper and just has a more raw feel to it!!!!!! good luck i wudnt worry about burning oil it dose but just check it once a month or before you plan on vtecing

Get an 06+ if you're going to tune so you can have the access to the flashpro platform.

If you want the 9k red line, get the 03.

The redline really isn't a huge deal. I just want to get something that I dont have to worry about breaking down..

I would love to get an 03 but i want to find one that isnt going to be an oil burner, or is that just a 00-01 issue?

Thanks
everyone

all of those little problems, like oil issues, were fixed in the AP2

IMO, between ap1 and ap2, ap2 hands down

with that being said, the best years of AP2 (imo) are the 04-05. arguably the most reliable years, dont have to deal with the drive by wire, and you have the holes in the headrests, and of course ap2v1 wheels, which are the best oem s2000 rims

Of course one could argue that the DBW is an upgrade to the non DBW and that the 06 + year models didn't have the pesky air pump to deal with. Just sayin'.

Err...AP2V2 rims are better in my opinion. Holes in headrests seem annoying. I don't see any issues with drive-by wire. And 06+ gets Flashpro

QFT

exactly how i felt when i bough my car

gf has an 07 so I know how it feels to have DBW

coming from an 06 si with HORRIBLE DBW, I can honestly say you can barely feel the difference. With DBW, you lose a little throttle feel since it's now electric. The gas pedal in the 04-05 takes more force to apply pressure, whereas the 06+ is a lot lighter

06+ if you're looking to mod your s2k so you can use flashpro. If you're going to leave it stock, 04-05

If you check the consumer reports site (it's a paid site but a friend of mine has a subscription). 04's were the most reliable!
