Default Help me I.D this noise

I have this strange noise coming from my car. I've had it from day one.
When I back my car out of the driveway, into the street. I put the car into first gear, take off slowly & when I've traveled about 100 feet I hear a "clunk" sound.
- This only happens the first time I drive the car each day.
- It dosent matter what gear I'm in (first 100 feet I'm either in 1st or 2nd).
- There seems to be no problem with the car, just the cluck noise.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Clunk, ie, deep metallic sound...or click? The one click when first starting in the day is usually the hub axle nuts that need to be re-torqued. They should be torqued to 220ft-lb. If the click remains, then grease the axle splines. If one doesn't fix the click, the other usually does.

yeah sounds axle related. does this only happen when you first use the car each day and then goes away?

I just did the axle nut retorque a few days ago and i havent heard any associated noises since.

The sound almost sounds like a big spring being released.
Maybe a hub axle nut you say? I'm not sure what the hub axle nut is. Is it the large nut you see when you remove the back wheel? Do you think the dealership would check this for free since the car is under warentee?

Hmm, if the car is under warranty, that would imply that it is a MY06 or later. The axle nut torque should have already been at 220.

Interesting, I get a similar noise too, never thought anything of it though. Mine sounds like a muffled clunk. I'm curious now...

Standard VSA system check? All '06 and later cars have VSA and do this right after forward movement (usually within the first 100 ft). Are you sure it only happens once a day and not each time you get in it? Its usually easily missed unless you are listening closely for it.
