Default Help! need DIY pics rear window replacement

My soft top tore today and I am wanting to replace the rear window myself. The problem is, every DIY thread I find on it doesnt have working pictures. Does anyone have a link to one that is detailed and with working pictures?

Thanks!!

Thanks man.

Have no idea why it even cracked. I was just let the top down to clean the interior and "pop"- split in two spots.

Can anyone else offer any help/advice with replacing it?

Just to replace the back window, you need to take it to a shop because the new one needs to get sewn in. its not like a zipper or anything. Pretty much, you would remove your roll hoops, all those back panels, everything back there, put your seat back in, drive to the shop and have them sew it. Drive it back home, clean up the inside and all your interior pieces, then reinstall it.

You should upgrade it to the glass window so you wont have that problem again. It can crack if its cold out. When folding it down, you should fold it half way and stop, then push down any bended parts in the window, then continue folding it down.

did the fabric tear, or did the plastic window crack? if all you need to do is replace the plastic window, then it should be $200 + maybe a day of work. i did this earlier in the year.

i only took out the seats, and if you do a bit of reaching, you can find all the bolts/clips that hold the rear panels together. the plastic window itself is zippered on, but you will need new rivets! i went to the dealership, and they were like $5 each. i then went to home depot and bought a box of 50 for $5. also bought a rivet gun for $10-15, and it was a pretty straightforward job. the most time consuming part was removing the old rivets, and putting in new ones. it could be frustrating, but just take your time.

It's zippered on three edges, and rivetted on the fourth (the bottom edge).

To get to the rivetted edge, you have to undo the whole soft top. See S2-3456789-K post above.

It's a pain to do, but when done, it's like getting a new top. I personally prefer the plastic window top over the tiney glass top....it takes some more work to keep clear and non-creased, but in the end it's worth it.

Thanks guys on the input. This is what keeps this such a quality site and full of useful advice. I plan on tackling this sometime after the new year.

I was just letting the top down and the plastic made a "pop" and it tore in two places. There was nothing putting stress on it, nor was it abnormally cold. I had just finished washing it and was about to vacuum the interior. Now I have to ride around with tape on the window until its done. :/

Mine cracked like that too. Now I am conidering getting the glass top replacement from EZ Tops. No need to change the frame to accomidate for the glass over plastic. The kit comes with all the pieces to help the glass sit correct when the top is put back. It runs around $470. Cant go wrong with that imo.
