Thumbs up HELP!- In need of everyones advice!

As some of you may know i am selling MY03 S2000.

Over the course of the past month i have been negotiating with an S@KI member located in norway. After taking it to his friend's local mechanic for an inspection (here in houston TX) we negotiated a price, and he sent me a deposit( on june 6th) as other people were also steadily looking at the car. He has instucted me to work with his family friends here in Houston who will do the purchase for him, then ship him the car. When i spoke with them on the phone, they said that he hasn't sent all the money yet, and they haven't heard back from him. The last contact i have had with the buyer was june 8th despite the numerous s2ki.com messages that i have sent, and have been read Plus emails letting him know that he must contact me ASAP to comfirm a date to complete the sale.

In short, i don't want to be a A$$ but, i have three people that are ready to buy the car, how much longer should i wait for a response, as it has already been almost 2 weeks?

PLEASE give me your advice, what should i do? Move on to the next buyer...or hold on assuming he will buy?

-Thanks,
Casas

Me, I'd sell to the next buyer, then send the deposit back if the Scandanavian guy asks for it

As long as you made every reasonable effort to reach him, I feel it's fair to find another buyer. I'm a potential buyer as well, and would make it my responsibility to remain in touch with you. Move on to the next interested party.

Sell the car and sent the money back to him. You are the seller and you have right in this situation.

Why don't you just call him. It's not like the old days. They got phones in Norway and it's like 7 hours ahead of you and it cost maybe 15 cents minute.
You guys could talk for hours and call each other everyday and it will cost next to nothing considering it's a big sale.

Or just sell to the next guy and ship the money back. Seems like I read that somewhere else?

Thanks for the responses guys.

I feel like you are right in giving him the first chance but i have made every effort to reach him, and his local friends and family...He has never given me his number in norway, so i have no way to reach him by phone.

Posing another question: He wanted the car a particular way, ie: removing certian mods, and there were conditions like getting the car detailed/dent removed ETC. My question is I have taken my time and money to do these mods, not to mention holding the car for him. At what point is the non-refundable deposit...non-refundable?

Thanks for your input guys,
Casas

I suppose it depends on what the next person in line is offering you. If it is the same price the Norwegian was paying- you are not out anything and should give all of the money back. If the work ends up costing you money (i.e.- the sale price is lower), I would keep the difference and send the rest back.

If he made you remove dings and wanted the car detailed, I'd charge him for that with the deposit since you wouldn't have done it if it wern't for him insisting on it (assuming this is correct)

***WARNING***

Do not send him bacj his deposit until the check has been cleared for at least 6 weeks. It is a common scam to send a check from out of the country and even though your bank clears it, it is still bad.

The buyer expects you to return the deposit before your bank figures out the check is in fact no good and dings you for the full amount.

I have no idea why checks can get through like this nor why your bank can come back to you after they cleared it but it happens all the time.

I hope this is not the case but I would wait at least the 6 weeks before returning the deposit.

Good luck, I hope this is all on the level but you can't be too carefull anymore.
