Default HELP. S2000 burning smell. Intake Problem? Car Audio Problem?

Hello. I purchased my 2002 S2000 about a month ago with 33000 miles on it. It is completely stock, except for a pioneer head-unit I self-installed a couple weeks ago. It has been over 100 degrees where I am at every day, so I try to avoid driving it during the day. I took it out tonight for a joyride and temp outside was around 85 or so. I took it to a dead stop and tried getting a 7 or 8k RPM start in first gear and it barely took off. I stopped and tried again and the same result. Once the car got into second and third, it seemed to respond adequately. I noticed after the second go-round that a burning smell was prevalent in the car. I just parked it in the garage, and I can smell it in there too. The car temp isn't out of range at all. One thing though, I had the air filter box lid off during this ride. Would that have something to do with why it responded badly and wouldn't take off? Is the smell from that or possibly a bad car audio installation and wires are burning? I don't have much knowledge with vehicles, so forgive me if this is a common problem. Just so you know, the car audio system has and still is working great.... So, I am assuming that isn't it.

Dude, sounds like you are beating on the clutch a bit, that's probably where the smell is coming from.

If it smells like chicken soup or burnt toast its the clutch.

Might be a plastic bag stuck to your exhaust.

7-8k repeated launches are tantamount to taking ten one hundred dollar bills and using them as toilet paper.

If you're going to take off like that.. Atleast "dump" the clutch instead of riding it out..
