Default Help shopping for my first S2K

Hey guys I'm new to the page and I'm shopping to buy my first S2K. I'm trying to buy one for <$10K and I've found a few in that range, but I'm not sure what be on the lookout for. I know to look for the usual stuff when buying a used car, but are there any specific S2K things I should lookout for? I live in Texas, idk if that affects anything. Thanks for the help ahead time!

If you search you will find an excellent existing threads on this very topic. This is a great forum - you won't find a better place to get mechanical information about the s2k that will help you immensely both when shopping and also as an owner. Also, you should check out the forum for s2k sales where members and others post cars for sale.

There are hundred of threads addressing your question. Have you read them?

For under $10K expect very high mileage, heavily rusted under body, torn seats and roof, replaced body panels, sketchy suspension, body mods and wheels, etc. This match the cars you've been looking at?

The ideal may be difficult to find in that price range.

Did you see the sticky above on this very topic? https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-ta...-s2000-775801/

If you can up your budget to 16K-20K you will see many good solid cars.

What does "budget" mean?

If you buy one for <$10k will you be happy to drive as is? It may turn out that the car would need a few $K in parts/labor before it's fun to drive.

In that case, looking at $16-20k cars would seem the better course.

If you cant swing more than $10k then maybe this isn't for you right now

At least go 12-14k. I've seen some decent looking ads for Ap1's with around or under 100k miles for that. If you go much cheaper you will end up paying that much anyway by the time you make the car right.

You good at turning wrenches? Then, I'd look for a car with straight sides and even gaps. No rust. Be ready to do a major tune-up. Maybe, some engine and exhaust work.

Good hunting!

As an alternative $10,000 buys you a very nice NA or NB Miata. It can be as fun as an S2000 and pretty much as practical.

Not to move you away from your s2000 plans, but you might not like what you get for that budget.

Also, be sure to use the search feature. There is a ton of information out there for people who look for it.

Roof is a biggy, too. No dried-out canvas. Or tears. Motor & windows need to work correctly.
