Default Hey everyone, I'm new and have a ques.

First, I'd like to introduce myself and say hello. My name is Chris and I'm from Tampa, FL. I just recently purchased a 01 s2000 and I'm crazy about it. I bought it for 17k with 37k miles on it. It's all stock. It's my third car. My other two cars were a gsr crx and a b16 del sol. Well, I want to mod my S just a little and am thinking about buying a K&N intake for the car. It's $230 new, is that a good price? Also, I know I prob. wont see to much hp gain, but will I loose hp if I added this. I just want a better sound to start off with, I'll add an exhaust pretty soon also. Is it worth the money and will I see any gains? thanks guys

^ If you pop off the airbox cover off and run it that way your going to lose HP just so you know. I've heard mixed reviews about the K&N setup.
Being new to the S2K, you both really need to do research on the different types of intakes for the S. Different ones can have very different effects on the car.

Don't believe everything you read online I very highly doubt its makes even close to 9hp.

What is your reason for getting an intake? And what styles do you like?

So far I havn't heard of but one intake that actually increase HP at all and that was questionable.

I just want something that will make more room in the engine bay and that will sound good. Also, I dont want to loose any power from this mod.

hi chris, welcome to S2ki. I have a comptec 'ice box' on mine , and it gives a little more snap, and more noise. look around here for a used one and save some $$ drive safe

there is a post about a K&N FIPK intake on this site (search for FIPK or something) and he did a back to back dyno with stock, airbox cover up, and finally FIPK installed and got about 3 horsepower. No, nothing you would feel, but he said he did it mainly for the sound, little better throttle response and knowing that you wont have to replace an air filter ever again.

One thing to note on the dyno pictures he posted... Upon hitting VTEC the gain looks like a pretty good leap after the FIPK kit was installed. I plan on buying the K&N kit myself in the next couple of weeks as the stock air filter is dirty and if I'm going to buy a new air filter, I suppose I might as well gain a couple horsepower and have a nicer kick at VTEC.

Well there are a few intakes that make HP but you need to spend big money for them. With intakes making 3HP that could really be anything, not just the intake

I also have a Comptech ice box, it made about 5hp on the dyno. But I didn't buy it for that. The Comptech helps the throttle response in a big way.
