Hey Tox, or anyone else who has tried silverstone touchup paint..
I have acquired a not so nice little paint chip on my bumper sometime within the past few days.
I requested touchup paint from my dealer, and they provided it to me, but now I almost regret using it.
The silverstone touchup paint dries entirely too dark, it stands out and looks plain ugly. Tox, I saw a post of yours where you mentioned trying other alternatives to cover chips up. Anyone have any suggestions so that I can fill this chip with paint that actually MATCHES??

I've had the same reaction -- it's way too dark. I've used it on a few small chips, mostly less than a millimeter, and I'm not pleased with it. I'm going to try some regular silver touchup paint, because it might be better and could hardly be worse.
Works fine for me. You'll need two or three coats so allow for it. With this kind of paint you can't muck with it too much or the clear won't rise. I think this may be your problem.
One possiblity is to try a thin layer of clear nail polish to see if that adds light to the color. Please don't blame me if you try this and don't like it. Remember, you don't like it now.

Okay, well I talked with my dealer, the service guys said you need to shake vigorously for atleast 10 mins.. I probably shook my container for about 2. Anyway, now I have a darker paint patch on my car, any ideas on how to safely remove the new paint? Thanks

since its still fresh non-clearcoated paint, you can try some nail polish remover first, then if nothing, a small drop of thinner. Let it sit on it a bit (if on a vertical surfcae, us like q-tip) then wipe off and wash with detergent.
My silver touch up was ok, but like someone else said:
1) shake REALLY well
2) do in REALLY thin layers- dont try to cover all at one application.
Good luck.

On chips, a trick that has worked well for me is to forget using the brush that comes with the touch up and instead dab the paint into the chip area using the end of a toothpick. The paint will seattle itself inside the chip cavity. The toothpick minimizes the gooping of paint all around the chip.
