The light is for emissions. What is the worst thing the light could be on for? Cat? Easy, cheap if you buy aftermarket or used. Misfire could be a lot of things that could get expensive if you don't know how to troubleshoot. But what else on a car as simple as this could be so costly to fix (that is causing a cel) that it would be a dealbreaker?
Cel can be for so many things.

I would buy a car with a cel on if:
- I was able to pull the codes and based on observation and knowledge was very sure what fixes were needed, and cars price more than reflected the needed repairs
- The cars price was so favorable it didn't matter what the cel was for, it would still be favorable
What I wouldn't do is buy one without seeing and driving it, or having someone trusted do that for me.
